You know, this W10 business reeked of crap from day one to me. First they gave it for free. Then they fucked all Windows users all over with crap noone should put up with, but a lot of them still did. They kept and keep releasing crap and not caring about their users much. They just do whatever they want and say "Who wants it will still use it. 1 billion less is not a big deal." They couldn't give 2 rat farts about it. And then you have people parroting "go W10, go with the times" etc... If you want to go with the times use W7 for audio, Linux for Internet and use clouds for everything.

And coming next to your phone - a Fucksya OS. They must had been on some heavy shit when deciding on how to call it...

    We hate M$
    That's why I don't use Linux.
Or Google. Giving away shit for free. Bastards!
Let's hope their new OS flops as hard as their last OS, Android :)

So if Google is moving away from their rape of Linux to fuck everyone with a new tool, my Linux security holes will be plugged by Google's abandonment. Awesome. How soon Googlies?

Well, the money is in mobile soft and internet services. Every company is going for it. It's logic that MSoft is dropping priority for Windows. Like they said before Apple is doing the same.

And it's not necessarily a bad thing. Last time Windows was a priority we had Windows 8 with the fabulous Modern UI trying to unify with Windows Phone. I'd be more concerned if I were a Mac OS X user because iOS is still selling very big.

Besides, Microsoft is the bigger loser at the moment with mobile/internet so we'll have windows for quite some time. Their mega-tablets/mini-laptops (last known name: surface) are failing too. Perhaps they will survive another few years and another name change.

PS. I like Win 10. Just like I liked Win 7 and Win XP and... and... MSDOS 5? lol

Apparently not. They're shouting that its not Linux based and its built by them, some kind of 'a modular, capability-based operating system', whatever that means...

You dont mean the fall creators update hopefully? Cause that move by windows is just stupid, and it's sad to see they are heading that direction.

Yeah, guess LTSB would be an option. Slip stream your drivers into the image though and disable windows updates. Bcuz once you ask windows to update your latest drivers, your screwed and it begins a 20 hour long process of installing unnecessary updates which you cant control.

Linux's code base is UNIX so is the MAC's.
Type some primary non-server FreeBSD commands into Linux or in a MAC terminal screen

Have I been omitting to do something important all my pc life? I have never asked windows to do anything for me with drivers. I just go the manufacturers site of my hardware and see if they have updated anything.

I don't know exactly what is the right technical word but I think the correct way is to say UNIX compliant/compatible.
Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X are very different inside but are UNIX compliant (the first UNIX I messed with was Sun workstations Solaris):
    - they implement sockets, threads, and so on in the same way
    - you can't swap binaries but you can compile (with few differences) the same code in all of them

That's true. You must disable updates first thing. Among other things lol.
You can use a tool like WSUS Offline Update utility to install the ones you want offline, though.
The problem updating drivers is not new, but the "control horror" gets it worse.

    Hello,

There is a better hardware management and security on Win 10.
If you project to upgrade wait a couple of weeks Redstone 4 is on the rails.

Check my previous post here : https://audiosex.pro/threads/suggestions-for-optimizing-win7-for-audio-please.34146/#post-320336

You have a big update every 6 month on Win 10 and the you can block update driver from windows update.
I have a Roland Quad Capture and the driver is automaticly downloaded from Windows update during installation. Nothing else.

    My 2 cents :guru:

There is just no company left doing proper testing on systems below windows 10. That said, because Windows 10 is basicly windows 8.1 with telemetry, a microsoft version of classic shell and mandatory reinstallment every now and then, you have a good chance that hardware/drivers/software works in win 8.1 as it would in win 10.

Win 7 was quite different here and there and I run into several problems I've never had in 8.1 or 10. One is the window manager itself, with its classic and aero mode. Some software liked one mode better than the other, vIdeo overlay not working perfectly and so on. Same old Software, later Windows: Problem gone.

Actually Win7 is just Windows Vista, it was launched because people hated Vista.
Same with win 10, basicly it's win 8.1 (which people hated. so...)
So Win7s architecture has just had it's 10th birthday.

I know it's hard to give up an old friend who took you 'long the way.
I kept my XP way too long. Back then I should have invested my time in Win 7 instead of beating a dead horse.

So that said, try to fix the FL problems, don't waste your time by downgrading now and upgrading in 12 months again.
You're a lucky guy, you're on a pc, there is alway that one dirty solution to fix the problem.
Besides that, how long can it take until there is a FL version that ironed those problems out?

Not that those tunes I made on my Amiga were bad, but it's nice to have more than 8 tracks, 8bits (ok 7bit with 8 tracks) and >22khz samplerate.
Of course one can stay with win 7 for now. But even today it's not too easy the get win 7 drivers for up-to-date hardware. And next year? And the year after that?
Am I happy about what nadella does? Certainly not. Do I have like 6000 dollar and want to buy a mac now? Certainly not.
But I would switch to a *nix system if the software i use was ported there.
