My mistake, went by the ©date of the owner's manual, know nothing about it.
17? A bit long in the tooth for DSP HW. The code must've been pretty tight to run (near) real time on ̶c̶o̶a̶l̶ 2001 HW, even with purpose-spun silicon. A bit like porting DOS software/ROM BASIC, no?
    Technically possible, I suppose.

  2. I looked at his credits and I didn't recognise anything that I might ever have listened to, and when I saw the credits for his Grammy awards made a chortling sound and knit my eyebrows in bewilderment as to why his face is so associated with pitching the product. I guess one reason is his book, what is called the definitive and end all on the subject of mastering, The Art and Science. He is highly respected by other mastering engineers and within the industry as a whole and his name pops up in conversation because of this. He has developed proprietary systems K-Stereo and K-Surround. These processes are designed to "recover lost or amplify hidden ambience, space and imaging, and generate stereo from mono signals without adding artificial reverberation, and so another reason, that of his total immersion in the field of audio. It sure is not from the great rock and roll albums he has lent an ear to.

I guess the Weiss is a very special box full of fairy dust and fabricated as witches and warlocks repeat special incantations over and over again until the sound coming through it is as colorless as the air which surrounds it. Perhaps it is old technology from the future and Bob is a time traveler. If anybody has another explaination I am all ears.

I can't wait for people to buy this, only to realize that it's nothing exceptionally better than a Pro-C 2 or a Kotelnikov.

    Indeed. I didn't know it's got only AES/EBU I/O

Anyway. Weiss stuff is rather overhyped. I remember seeing a SRC comparison between Weiss $10000 SRC and free Voxengo R8Brain 1.9 and guess which one is better? http://src.infinitewave.ca/ So why would this compressor/limiter be a holy grail of some kind in comparison to Voxengo Elephant, Pro-L/C etc. for instance? Of course, It's not bad. Just not really top of the line any more. We've gone a long way since 2001 in Audio DSP. Just try some of the VSTis from that time and have a laugh... [TC Mercury 1?]

I'm perfectly fine with everything we have already. I'm also glad that unnecessarily expensive hardware is on its way out. Digital is the way to go, with some analogue "touches" here and there, but you don't have to sell your kidney to be able to afford these any more. :)

For Softube Stuff, you not only need the iLok Licenser, you ALSO need a Gobbler Account (for downloading the installers)!
I like Softube Plugins, but the way they handle the downloads is a real PITA!

Being worth it depends on the interface, cpu, and other computer related hardware one already owns. If your interface alone costs less than a plugin you want to buy, you should be shopping for an interface. This and computer hardware are responsible for "processing capability" and "quality". Plugins only pass messages within that realm, and they can't instruct your hardware to do more than it's capable of.

Back to the subject of the Weiss ,it's completely over rated and Please do not be swayed by the fact that Bob Katz has something to do with it, he does not, only some presets from his Studio B setup and that is it.It's not even in his mastering room, it get used in the mixing room. ,this is a marketing gimmick at best and for the amount of cash Softube wants, you would be better off simply hiring Bob and his staff to do your mastering

While YouTube isn't the best way to judge audio, it's decent and

there's nothing I heard that another good limiter -combined with other processes and skill could not do.

    Here's the best demo:

Whatever I said, I would still like to try the damn thing and compare it to my favs. I'm so curious why this thing [plugin and hardware] costs so much!

  13. I too, but still haven't gotten around to yet as the soft licencer keeps me emotionally at bay.

Since we all know Mac users get no love... I'll have to wait to purchase this whenever it comes out in UAD2 format.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Softube chose till 4/08/2015 (Tubetech EQ collection) to release only UAD exclusive plugins.
I guess they don't want to compete frontally...

This is the list of the latest plugins released for UAD (only exclusive ones):
Dytronics® Tri - Stereo Chorus (Softube)
    Dytronics® Cyclosonic Panner (Softube)
Eden® WT800 Bass Amplifier with Unison technology (Softube)
OTO BISCUIT 8 - bit Effects by Softube
Chandler Limited Zener Limiter by Softube
Chandler Limited® Curve Bender Mastering EQ by Softube
    Marshall JMP 2203 by Softube
Marshall Silver Jubilee 2555 by Softube
    Marshall Bluesbreaker 1962 by Softube

So I guess the DS1 won't come to the platform.

Serban Ghenea has 11 Grammys (for the sake of the comparision let’s assume has has 3) and he works completely ITB (Protools). Just to bring a different perspective.

Edit: I just thought something worthy of mentioning: Serban Ghenea started mixing in the 90s. Late 90s he was working with the biggest names in US' pop/rock music (had a really powerful PT rig for that time). And he got year by year Grammy nominations... he start winning them roughly after 10 years. It's the living proof that ears are our most important plug-in and a set of decent tools that you intimately know can get you very very far.

  19. The sky is falling...the price of the hardware unit might dropping as people are contemplating the software if it comes as close to the original as advertised. Someone said that they saw one under 3 grand.

I still haven't unpacked the demo unit.

Gobbler is shite, I agree, but you don´t need Ilok as such, It´s handled by Ilok, so you need an Ilok account. If you don´t, softube automatically makes one for you when you register first time. Proud owner of Console 1, but again yes, updates etc could be more smooth.

    K-))
