Lol, I was actually going to be the first reponder to this post this morning, but got busy while i was typing... this post got a lot of action pretty quick.

Anyway I literally just got done mixing a project today that I opened using logic inside of VMWARE. I actually prefer to work in Studio one, but my client working in Logic.

Anyway the only drawbacks that I noticed are...

-Any bugs that you might experience as a result of virtualization depending on you hardware (some graphical glitches). You may need to find the right kext for certain hardware.

-Setting VMWAR's audio buffer settings to more suitable latency settings takes a few tech savvy steps

-Waves Plugins do not work inside of OSX in VMWARE, or dual boot hackintoshes (in my case when opening most waves GUI's they crash logic, or they appear blank/white, they pass audio fine though)

-If your computer does not have sufficient specs, you may not have enough ram/cpu power to run large sessions (I have an 8 thread i7, and 32 gigs of ram, so I have noticed no real issues with resources).

All in all even with the issues, I found that once you get VWARE setup right it was more convenient than a dual boot, especially with using shared drives function within VMWARE. But for midi composing, dual boot may have a slight advantage with latency.... I'm still testing to find out though.

If you don't mind me asking what were the setting? midi input lag wise does it get worse as the session goes on?

Sorry to resurrect this, but does anyone know how to solve the graphics stuttering when running Logic in VMware? I'm using the onboard graphics on my Intel chip, no graphics card, but everything works great except for the graphics issues...

 

As far as I can remember, out here (in L.A., but also in NY when I lived there), I've never seen a single commercial studio running Windows - not one, not once. Maybe in Nashville? ATL? 305?

I've been to studios in Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, France and the UK as well. All Mac based.

Maybe Germany and Eastern Europe are more PC centric than the US? Either way, you can run ProTools, Cubase and Samplitude (plus: SAW, SadiE, Pyramix, Reaper, etc) on Windows, and plenty of DAWs on Mac also, including ProTools, Reaper and Cubase, obviously.

I'm OS agnostic: I was using Logic on Windows for years before Apple bought them. Prior to that I was running NotatorSL on Atari, so I switched to Mac.

The simplicity of use on Mac - true plug and play, not a marketing slogan - for audio and video especially, was and still is night and day in comparison. Not that Mac people compare with Windows. We know it's there, like the dark side of the moon (which isn't dark by the way, just unseen to us), but we don't care one way or another what doesn't on PC. We care only about what works.

Mac works. You can write tons and tons to the contrary (look at the IT press, always bashing on Apple, predicting its demise for the last 25+ years... and yet), you can curse Macs..., whatever man.

While you do that, the rest of us make music. You could instead google Core Audio, educate yourself on this "weird environment" (tell me you don't know jack, without telling me you don't know jack). Just a thought - other than that, be well, live long and prosper.
