FOSTER911-Do you believe that people were living in the past were much deeper than us in every aspect of life?
In a lot of ways YES ( but not all ways and not ALL people)
people in the past lived MUCH deeper than MOST of us do today.
    this is why,

in the past people had to work hard to survive , they had to dedicate to their family and make a better world for their children.
nowadays MANY people use technology to hurt themselves instead of advancing themselves.

it is IMPORTANT to keep the knowledge the people in the past had ALONG with using the modern advancements to help ourselves.
if we can do that we CAN advance further than those in the past
it takes a dedication to honoring those from the past.

Maybe you've been drinking your own Kool-Aid a bit as you're coming off pseudo-intellectual and deliberately obfuscated yourself. That's not the meaning of the word antediluvian, nor is obscurification a proper word.

Maybe your mind isn't as sharp as you think and maybe you haven't parsed Darwinism enough to truly understand it.

I don't want to take cheap shots at you as I don't know anything about you, aside from this post, but I think you fail to see the irony of your own post about irony.

Sure: social norms, religious dogma, customs, social class etc. You didn't question God's law, you didn't question your king's absolute right, you didn't question your place on the social ladder, and most didn't even have the education/exposure to imagine things any other way.
    Is that a royal plural?
ITT: we learn that the so-called "greats" were
    [IMG]
vicious bigots. Unlike 99% of their lily-assed neighbors, who were all enlightened, forward-thinking individuals.
This is the sum total of Western though: bigotry and filth!

I would love to read up on that if you have some sources, everything that I've read up to now seems to contradict that point of view. I really hate to quote the internet but I will because I am just not invested enough in the general biological education of the members of a music forum to care enough to more than just that. I am really curious though and I will follow up on any data trail you present and form my own conclusions. I am just not interested in debating feelings or non-factual assumptions.

Since it's all science, I would be very appreciative of a lead from something that will eventually lead to something scientific.

I really do not want to get into a discussion on evolution, but unless you are referring to social evolution you might want to reconsider that statement. Biological evolution doesn't work like that, unless you are a proponent of Lamarkian style evolution.

We may have more means, more cumulative knowledge, better process, literacy and dissemination, and but that is not the same thing as intelligence.

Why would you want to ignore social evolution when it comes to describing human flourishing and its impact on intelligence? Your links give support to my thesis, not yours. It would be a rather big mistake to use your ignorance and lack of logical consistency to equal lack in human biological evolution since our common ancestor with neanderthals.

    sigh

Having means is not the same as being intelligent.

It amounts to the same as saying rich people are better than poorer people, because they have more stuff.

The Flynn Effect doesn't support 'we are smarter now,' if it did IQ tests would not need to be remade every few years. It states that we have more resources and that people are better educated. Being better educated doesn't make one more intelligent, it just allows more of us to test better and have a better potential. It can seem incongruous but it isn't, intelligence is what allows us to solve problems with or without education, postulate new theories and prove them, etc... Education and transmission is what allows us to move forward rather than start over every generation. Society is what provides the environment that either fosters or hinders those processes.

I am just talking about moden homo sapiens here, the inclusion of other hominids was just a part of article. So 50,000 to 20,000 years back.

Either way, I am not here to force you or anyone else to understand anything. You keep on believing what you want to believe... I am still waiting for scientific evidence that contemporary homo sapiens are more intelligent than they were 2000 years ago. More intelligent, not just better educated, better fed, healthier, longer living, better spacial recognition from video games, under less subsistence pressures and with more access to resources. These are the blessings of our social evolution - not biological evolution the two are not the same thing. There is no way to deny that our social evolution, specifically post industrial civilization has a been a great boon to humanity and individuals. However saying that we biologically have changed significantly is an other thing all together.

I'll keep checking back, but I really do not have anymore to say without evidence.

If I am wrong, I will be the first to happily admit it.

I am just not interested in an opinion based discussion that provides no scientifically sound evidence.

Thanks to the globalization of the world...
Globalisation of the economy , but the worst for me is the globalization of the culture. Every country is going to be the same,it's a tragedy ! There is one global ( not everybody happily ! ) unique thought : profit and have more stuff.
    Traditions are going to disappear.
Consumer society where everything is short lived.
Everything can be bought, even wifes , silence , etc... Effortless if you have money.

But our society ( in the West for the least! ) have some good points too. No slaves , everybody ( in France less and less ) can eat , and ( in France too ) everybody can be treated and every child go to school.

In the past everything was not beautifull too.
Yes in the near past I think people were more respectfull and sincerity which have disappear for the most of people.
What we remember of History is only the best ( or the worst too !!! ) , and I think people in the past were not better than today. Nastiness , cupidity , disloyalty , stupidity and more have ever been part of humanity.

There have always been stupid people. It just so happens that at this point in history there are far more of them than ever before.

People who believe hundreds of years ago humanity was a lot more intelligent, kinder or more better off in general are some of the most self-centered, narcissistic people I've ever met. Feel free to go be a slave, fight in someone else's war and die of smallpox if you'd like, I'll stick to my modern times please.

Such was the very purpose of the Modernist "movement" and its attendant, contemporaneous top-down-imposed trends in thought, form and expression. And yes, consequently, over the past six or so decades, people on the whole have grown shallower, less original in thought, less authentic in expression, and less capable of grasping complexities and following lines of reasoning.

You show clear signs of not understanding what intelligence is. You are using the word wrong so we can't have a discussion about it. It is not up to you to decide what it means. Before you educate yourself on the topic of intelligence you will be unable to get understand the evidence. Your brain is stuck in a loop of farts.

ok, i'll try... but acusing someone of brainfarts when they had a complete logical breakdown is not that fierce. Is it? Claiming to know something about a creator of the universe on the other hand... :bleh:
