electric guitar through a mic preamp

  1. I guess that you are monitoring your guitar before it hits the converters so as not having to deal with the latency.

    funkytoe,

The Pro 24 has "inst" inputs which are HI-Z inputs - which means that they are suitable for an electric guitar. Therefore, you do not require a DI.

However, I had a Pro 40 which uses the same hardware, and I found that the inst inputs were "too hot" and even with the gain off the signal was in the red most of the time. This being said, most "inst" inputs are considered as HI-Z and therefore suitable for an electric guitar.

    Help this helps?

Just wanted to help clear this up a little.
The answer is yes! You can use a mic pre on a guitar di signal. That’s is what di is for.
Run guitar through di box, the xlr out to mic pre, then out of mic pre to audio interface. Should give you good results. Only thing I would think about is phantom power. Check your di box requirements/specs and see how it likes phantom power?
I use a sans amp di and phantom power actually powers the sans amp.
This is how I play amp sims. Guitar to sans amp, xlr out of sans amp to input of audio interface pres.
Just read your manual of your di box and make sure if you need or don’t need phantom power to operate properly.

I'm just sending dry guitar tracks from the DAW for reamping purposes, or otherwise doing a bit of sound design. I also send VST instruments through the FX and amp.

did you upgrade the tubes in yours ? I've got a pair of Telefunkens I am about to switch out for...

a lot of times the Hi Z on lower end interfaces are notoriously dodgy, the signal is still too
hot for them and clip very easily... I know only too well..

would not go for a cheap passive DI, helps a little but not enough,
active will be better, this one is ok,

    http://www.countryman.com/type-85-direct-box/

the price vs. quality curve on these is pretty linear,
so you may not be completely satisfied with lower end boxes

Haven't yet, but plan to. I've got two of them. The plan is to switch out tubes in one unit using two different types so each channel has a different flavor, while leaving the other as is for stereo track usage.
Let me know what you think about the Telefunkens in it. I've heard good things elsewhere.

couldn't you record clean guitar directly to your interface, and then (or simultaneously) run the signal from interface through goldmike back to the interface? most convenient to me imo

I've done that, and it works (with my setup). Adds an extra step to the process unless you can run it back through simultaneously as you suggested. I did that with a lot of tracks which I had recorded prior to getting the Tube Preamp.

Maybe, I also use guitar sims. Guitar rig and Amplitube. I can say the Tube Mp adds a little warmth to it. You can mostly or as I should say I can hear it more when I am playing clean.

Hi everyone, I want to start playing a guitar but I don't have any idea. I might need some help to decide which brand to buy since I don't have much of a budget. I have been searching online and found several reviews like https://musicadvisor.com/?s=electric+guitar

It would be a great help to hear some opinions for those who really plays. I am open to any suggestions. :) Thanks
