Can anyone point me towards a vintage sounding, deep, and somewhat dark piano similar to the one James Blake has used in this track? Preferably a kontakt library.

I realize the tone has a lot to do with velocity, voicing, and chord selection, but I feel like having the right piano to start out with will compliment these elements better.

this is just a suggestion & nothing more : try perhaps Addictive keys (VHS Infomercial preset as a starting point) with a bit of Valhalla vintage verb & some low pass filtering ? : i did this really fast so i know it is not the exact sound

 

Sounds pretty good already to be honest. Thinking maybe some subtle pitch modulations to get it out of tune just slightly, some lo-fi processing, lower velocity, etc. I'll try it out for sure, thanks.

 

Lower velocity for sure, there´s a Kontakt library out there called Death Piano from Production Voices and of course the old Tonehammer Emotional Piano V1. Both can sound very close in my opinion.

 

Recently got death piano, been loving that as well.

 

Pretty sure that's an upright.
