1 last important thing: As it comes with higher impedance than usual headphones, you may find that your audio interface's output is too low in some case.
As an example: Focusrite has a limited phone output (they justify this by "you will never saturate your output", which translate by, "we didn't wanted to invest in a good phone preamp so we make more profit") so if you work with a good dynamic range, say around -14db, you phone output will not be enough.
So it's important before buy any high impedance headphone to check your soundcard phone output power.
This problem is not seen very often in good audio interfaces, as far as I know only Focusrite in the medium and high end interfaces.

The MBP seems to have those specifications:

Maximum output voltage: 2 VRMS (+8.24 dBu) Output impedance: < 24 Ω Frequency response

The DT got 250 Ohm, and as far as I understand it (not that much I think)
the Soundcard should have 1/8 or less of the headphones impedance, which would be about 30, so sounds like its a match. But I got a feeling I got something wrong!?
Maybe one can clear that up?

Normally, even a cheap dedicated audio hardware should drive a 250 ohm headphone. The rule of thump is if you want to use a headphone with consumer grade headphone amps like a mobile phone a tv or a tablet your headphone impendance should be =<100 ohm. There are a lot of headphones in the price range of a 880 that have impendance of 470 - 600 ohm. Such headphones are really a pain in the ass with a low to medium - budget interface or even a PC or Mac soundcard.

THE 1/8th RULE: keep the output impedance less than 1/8th the headphone impedance. Or, put another way, just divide the headphone impedance by 8 to get the maximum output impedance without potential audible degradation.

I cannot recommend any DT880, I tested them twice and they're anything but neutral.
Spiky, very painful treble at 8kHz, nonexistent mid-range and too much rumble in the bass.
    Bloated spatialization and questionable comfort.

DT250 hands down blows them out of water with a clean shot in every aspect, even considering 250 are closed back.

BTW, when comparing impedance vs. desired volume, I made a thread about it few months ago.
Basically the best choice is high impedance and high sensitivity.

Didn’t even used them yet, as they are on shipping, but the 8 khz spike is making me nervous a bit.
But I use this TB Morphit the first time actually on my old Superlux, and they sound more natural, not those harsh trebles any more, didn’t had the chance 2 c how they translate actually.
@Andrew: what kind of Genre you use the DT‘s for ? Will check out your thread , thx for the information appreciated!

    @KidPix

    Hi there,

wanna say a big thanks to you for introducing me to TB‘s Morphit. I use it since a few days, and I like it, headphones sounds way more natural & balanced. It works well with the Superlux Hd 668b, and since yesterday I got the Beyerdynamic DT 880, and the correction curve is way more subtle than for the Superlux, mostly tame the bright highs a bit.
I turn the limiting function of, as I use Morphit on my master bus.
Not totally aware what Morphit really do to the sound, is it just an eq?
Well, most important thing, I gotta check how the mixes will translate, as it’s Morphits main purpose to enhance that!

Theoretically it should flattening the response curve. I tried the Sonnarworks once which should do the same, with HD600 once and there was literally no real difference at all, so for me there was no point in taxing cpu with that.
You should be fine with DT880 there though. There's just a learning curve like to any other headphones/speakers. Just listen to a lot of reference music, good mixes, analyze how it sounds and just apply it to your music.

You should try my approach to nice comfy headphones that just wont break, I forget I'm wearing them and walk off still attached. You only get a few goes at that before needing a new set (or LOTS of sticky tape)

sorta happened to me a few times when a cable was shorter than expected/i was used too. but it either would jump of my head or get unplugged

DT 770 for recording , ok.
But DT 880 for mixing and DT 990 for mastering ??? :snuffy: I don't understand why a headphone which would be good for mastering would not be good for mixing... I have a DT 990 pro and use it for mixing and do it well. A very good headphone for the price.

Usually acoustic genres, but IMO good balanced HP should work on all genres equally. It didn't matter what the 880s were playing, everything sounded very painful.

Lot of personal bias in that article and many important considerations not covered at all..

I don't get you. Mixing too dry and wrong sterero image are the most common mistakes when mixing on headphones.
The article is about avoiding those (and other) common mistakes, if I'm not mistaken. Surely one paragraph per item is scarce, no doubt about it. If you're implying there are many other mistakes please do share them!

Ok. I use the Dt 880 for severall weeks and I’m totally satisfied with them, everything sounds majestic (professional, at least In comparison to the superlux or sennheiser hd25 i tried at a Friends),
detailed, and very revealing. Stuff I did witj the superlux, Plugin processing a lot, it sounded great on the superlux, it really sounds distorted and weak on the 880, at that is what I need, the truth.
As my music is bass emphasized ( which is not that easy to hear since the 880 is very ‚neutral‘), it sounds great on this phone. For more natural/acoustic music, I can imagine the highs may be to harsh , for me it fits. Maybe could make profit of an phone amp, but in another thread of mine, members told me to buy an expensive dac/amp, or no one, so as I’m on lowbudget it’s not an option.
    Greetings, thx for contributing
