Chart hits used to be poetry. They sang songs that were about something. Now you don't need to exercise one single brain cell.

Girls, we run this motha (yeah!)

In the course of 4 months in 1977, at Madison Square Garden (shown under construction in my avatar) I attended the concerts of
Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake and Palmer (with orchestra) Pink Floyd, Yes, and soon after that, Jethro Tull and The Moody Blues.
The tickets were $7.50, the T shirts were $3.00 and the subway was 25 cents.

  15. I nicknamed The Garden "Hall of the Living Gods" as I saw soooo many amazing shows (and Knick games...the company my Dad worked for had season tickets for all the events to entertain customers and I got to use them if they were available). That and my friend's father was a DJ for a rock n roll radio network. The 70's and early 80's was AWESOME!!! That, and an ounce of Panama Red or Columbian Gold was like 40 or 50 bucks...I can still taste it!

The 70's are, by far, the best era for modern music but I was too young to enjoy it. I remember what Prince said in 2005 "If i knew in the 70's what would become the music business I would have done something else" ...same here.

No choreographed backing dancers needed. One spotlight on David Gilmour while he played the solo in Comfortably Numb was transcendent.

  18. See, you've forgotten the real seventies.
