How do you find yourself with Reaper? Let's do the "I love Reaper because.."

Me: I love Reaper because, instead of adjusting to Reaper, Reaper can adjust to me. I love it <3

I love it also. But there dev's are starting to mess up a lot lately. I have reported a few bugs and they are not fixed yet.

 

Ouch. Just getting started. Hopefully all went fine. I heard that day @Andrew reported a bug and get got it fixed in 5.7.

 

I love it because it's the only DAW I can make my shit with. Simply put.

More complex answer: first of all its connectivity with other computers and DAWs, but especially with other Reapers. It's just incredible. ReaMote and ReaStream are simply brilliant. Everyone into audio should have Reaper installed to get ReaRoute which connects ASIO audio programs, so you can work from any ASIO compatible program and record directly into Reaper. Easy. It starts as soon as I press its shortcut. No waiting time at all.

It's got presets and templates for everything so you can work really fast. Of course, you're the one who has to make those yourself, to fit your workflow. For example you can make a Battery 4 template with all outputs mapped, your favourite drum kit, your favourite FX plugins... and load it in a second. You don't have to fiddle with loading plugins all the time.

Audio and MIDI Routing is the best in industry, IMHO. But it is also very complex and you can get lost in all the menus. Again, once you create your templates, you don't have to do it again.

For me it is possible to produce well just with stock [stockpile, rather ] plugins and just a dozen of 3rd party ones. A better EQ, Compressor, Limiter, Reverb, Filter and some modulation effects like chorus, phaser, maybe a multi-FX of some kind. And I would need a sampler, synth and drum VSTi, of course.

As a bonus, Reaper is definitely the most CPU efficient and stable DAW I've ever used and it comes with its own 32bit bridge and firewall for plugins. It is so complete regarding features, it is incredible. Add to that SWS extensions and you get even more. Like things you finally found Reaper didn't have, after working with it for years.

Cons? IMO?

It looks primitive, like an old programmer's wet dream and typical user's nightmare. I'm actually not that considered by its looks, as you can rectify that with some nice 3rd party theme to an extent, but very complex menus, tons of options and features and still sometimes I'd really rather like to see "tools menu" when I press the right mouse button. It took them a lot of time to make MIDI output to outboard hardware precise, but it works well since a couple of years ago. There are still bugs that you can encounter, but they are usually GUI/usability bugs that don't affect its stability. And the worst con for me is: no true mono tracks like in Cubase and ProTools. You have to tinker with every plugin's audio routing to get a true mono track, with mono processing that saves a bit of CPU. But despite that Reaper is still the most CPU efficient DAW on the market.

I love reaper because I can design it for my music production
I can customise it
I can send and return easily
I can automat easily
I can mix and master easily
I can create my own shortcuts easily
I can work with loops easily
I can stretch the loops without loosing quality
I can. .......
and finally I really enjoy reaper to live with music!!!

 

Pretty much.

I love reaper because I will never grow out of it. I can keep up with the latest trends and use or write new tools.

2012: Mixing in 5.1 surround (VSTs)
2014: Mixing in 7.1 surround (own tools)

Dolby has Atmos, DTS has X, so I came up with my own 15.1 system.

2016-17: Mixing in 9.1-15.1 surround , and ambisonics (aka. spatial audio, used for VR) (own tools & VST)

 

I love this thread!
Although I've switched to Ableton a few years ago, Reaper's standout features were for me:
- Coding your own plugins using the fairly easy "Jesusonic" Scripting
- Customizable hardware Midi control
- Rock-solid performance
- A user forum with a lot of highly skilled and helpful members

 

I love Reaper because it follow my style.

 

-I never get any crackles or CPU maxing, and almost never crushes.
-I can make custom folders to sort out all my plugins (other DAWs might have this too but I haven't seen it).
-Bussing and sending tracks is as easy as dragging a one track's I/O button to another, no stupid endless menus with numbered busses.
-A freaking wet/dry knob for every plugin makes parallel processing so easy and fun.
-Automate EVERYTHING.
-Nice company with great support that isn't trying to take every cent you have.
-Little phase button on every track. None of Pro Tools's idiotic "insert plugin to check phase".
-You can use pretty much any plugin format, with a built in 32 to 64 bridge. lmao @ people whining that a plugin doesn't come at 64bit so their DAW can't load it.
-You can install it on every computer in a minute without having to deal with ridiculous endless licensing menus and limitations, and export/import your settings (including all your preferences, presets, custom folders, etc.)

Reaper rules, haters drool.

 

It's a love/hate relationship for me, actually. I love it for what it can do and hate it for what it doesn't.

 

I love Reaper because.. it's fun. It's really fun when you're messing around with the crazy stuff and it's so freaking cheap.

How about the great osc implementation!
You can design you’re own custom remote control for reaper easily with lemur or touchosc. Amazing!
How about the thousands of custom user scripts that are free! Like the guitar tab converter that converts midi to guitar tab! Or the radial menu! Or the fx plugin pin routing script!
How about reastream! The ability to stream audio to different PCs for processing! How much does Vienna charge for this? Most plugin developers can’t even get this to work right! Like flux! I couldn’t get flux analyzer to stream properly for the life of me! And I’m computer savvy!
How about the ability to add fx on the input, insert, takes, busses, or master channel! Next level!
How about SWS Live Mode! Turn reaper into a live guitar processing beast!
How about the actions menu! Thousands of shortcuts ready to be mapped to any midi, osc, or keyboard button! Then you can even chain multiple actions together for a super action!

I could go on for days!
Nothing even comes close to reapers functionality! Anyone who says reaper isn’t for them cuz of the looks is a child and doesn’t value their money!

 

I love Reaper because it's fast and free (almost). A great tool to check new plugins for me. Not my first but I'll always have it with me as the second daw.

 

I love reaper because of its small footprint. Install it in 1 minute and start tracking!

 

- Great forum community, very friendly and helpful, with even support from Reaper devs themselves !
- Insane big arsenal of scripts, for great workflow optimisations, available through the free Reapack. (www.reapack.com)
- Deep customisation (and i mean DEEP)
- Very economic CPU performance
- Make your own Custom Actions, again for speedy workflows.
- Super stable (at least, on mac).
- Super fast startup of Reaper Projects, also with hundreds and hundreds of plugins installed and much plugins used in a Reaper Project
- Every week Reaper get's updated, containing bug fixes and new features
- Automation Items !!
- Coming ARA support !

...because it's not installed on my PC.

 

I love it because now I can fiddle with customizing my DAW instead of actually composing...

 

...other grossly inappropriate passions, e.g "I love plump underage children" & "I'm In Love With My Car" just aren't weird enough.

Most DAWs can process/sync to video.

(Ableton & FL, running side by side)

 

Because as a geek it offers me dozens of features to tweak, customize, program, slave network processing... I dig all of them though I don't make music anymore
