With all due respect... I wouldn't care if teams dropped EXCLUSIVELY for Windows... I'd never switch back. Happy New Year to all contributors....on all sides for all platforms.

I don't understand what people say here. The most important thing is the music not the machines. Some people create incredible music with a cheap laptop (mac(old) or pc). Just tools for audio producers. The result is the most important thing.
I don't care if you are pro or con. I just want to listen to your work, your mixes, your mastering. And the best is still the best on Win or Mac or Linux.
    Happy new year guys.:mates:

The ol' PC-vs.-Mac contention. And no mention of Linux? Contending over PC-or-Mac is a self-having argument. And there were lots of gratis goodies for Mac on the sister site, but more or better for PC? So save money on PC hardware and not be obliged to pay for that sexy Windows software if you really want it. And let Bill Gates spy on you.

I myself am using a 2011 Macbook Pro that I'd bought for $220 on Craigslist because its keyboard is bad; upgraded the RAM for less than $100; external keyboard came with the computer; running 10.11.6 and I am content with it. So much for the Battle of the Brands.

Actually it was Steve Jobs killing the word "Computer" out of "Apple Computer Inc." and he set the path the company had to follow.
This was the time Apple started to flush the Mac platform down the drain. They only built what was in the pipeline already and then switched Mac and Mac software to a low priority and mainstream, what has been a pro platform before.
It was Jobs himself who started to only look after money. Around that time he develops a "Napoleon posture" getting one of those hatable money sacks.

Short after that I sold my Mac and switched to PC. Don't regeret it. Never wanted to own a Mac again.

I confess, I have been an apple fan since my teens, but apple they lost their souls to money.

Can't you just install Windows on the Mac bootcamp? Much easier for you thatn for us PC guys to install OSX on PC. No need to buy a new one, unless you want to.

Musicians who actually are busy making music, interact with the OS much less than with the daw and plugs they use. Therefore it should make very little difference to the end user of ie. Cubase Pro if it runs on mac or win because functionality is virtually identical on both platforms. "Power" or "experienced" users are usually well acquainted to both platforms anyway (perhaps Linux too).
The "who gets more pirate soft", should be a personal/isolated issue to those with enough skills yet a really tight or no budget at all. I don't see how the op being ready to change platform because the win platform has r2r, makes for a viable win vs mac debate starting point lol.
Anyhow, any computer user with more than a 6 month experience, should understand by now that, all os's have advantanges and disadvantages but what is common among them is:
    ALL OPERATING SYSTEMS SUCK :knock:
Simply there is nothing human related using a mouse and keyboard. Especially when you are a musician. It is awkward no matter what. Luckily it is the human way of adapting to not so comfortable situations that overcomes this. But it still is far from a humanized experience.
So pick your poison, get used to its side effects and move on please.
    Happy new year :)

I wasn’t a Jobs fanboy. But I’m pretty sure he would have understood the demands of creative professionals well before this whole hipster bullshit ruined everything. We have no idea how he would have reacted to the overwhelming shallowness teens wear on their sleeve daily as a badge of honor. He might have embarrassed the “me” generation. But I think - just my opinion - he would have put an end to all this by actually getting back to the basics. The whole industry is a wreck if you ask me. But who the fuck am I? Just a peeved pirate pissed off because Macs were thrown a bag of dicks last night, while PC world plays with all the toys... Life isn’t fair, I know this. I can bitch if I want. The thing I’m worried about are the people 10-15 years younger than me who actually believe the world is supposed to be a fair place, demand safe spaces and scream bloody murder if they feel triggered by a white suburban boy sporting dreadlocks...... Lol sorry, I kind of went off on a tangent with this one

That's so true. But you are constantly in need of interaction with the OS. In my case Windows.
    For instance:
    Yesterday everything worked fine.
Today, for no reason, my installation of Avenger needs a new activation and Windows isn't able to write to the directory where the activation file resides. Re-started Windows, no luck. Re-Started DAW as admin, no luck. At the end I needed to delete the old activation by hand and reactivate the DLL wit DAW started as Admin (what I normally don't do, because I won't be able to drag'n drop with admin rights)
F@!@*ck! 15 minutes for nothing. Imagine, if this happens on stage.

So let me extend your axiom:
    ALL OPERATING SYSTEMS SUCK
    ALL ACTIVATION SCHEMES SUCK!

Hey, calm down buddy. Didn't we all think that, when we were in our teens. And weren't the years ever since a continuous disappointment in this field. The only people being (mostly) fair are relatives and close friends. :)

I can live without most of the stuff that just dropped. I would like to see the newest Kontakt for Mac. I don't think we've ever gotten anything that needed an emulator, though.

I have both, each have their faults, it really is up to the user which he prefers . In my case I use the Mac for my DAW and the Pc as a FX possessor. I have multiple interfaces so routing the audio is simple ,also Midi over lan helps

    can't give enough thumbs up...
but like this so much had to quote it "as is".... especially the Reaper part...

I have a Mac in fact.. but have done most recording/producing on Win...
more stuff is available indeed, and it's much more stable than before...

why cry about availability for Mac... you can get a used i7 laptop on ebay
that is more than adequate for your DAW, especially a light and low demand one
such as Reaper... good external drive for your libs... you can do this for between
    $500 - 600 US ! what's not to like ?

I've never really understood the constant competition between Apple fans and PC fans. Especially in the audio community. We all use different tools for the job. I personally use Apple because I enjoy the OS and I've never really had problems with a Mac. I've had my 2009 iMac for a long time it still runs perfectly. Why do people feel the need to bash others simply on a preference of machine... Some people might not want to build a PC from scratch and some might now like to pay a lot of a system. It's all just preference in mg opinion. To start a war about which one is better is so stupid in my opinion. It leads to personal insults and it only creates tension.

    Go create some music dudes.

There it is, arrived late. Going to Windows after this new years confirmation that crackers believe this osx won't be good for us anymore. Job's took the "macs for pros" idea with him.

I agree, that literally is like saying "my screwdriver is better than yours" geez, years ago I used to go through the same thing with my wife, but it was over our cars, I have a BMW, she has an Audi and she is convinced that her car is better ,both are just cars, Who cares!!!??!!
