It's not plug-in, but nothing sucks more than Pro tools does.
As far as plug-ins go, Slate digital and Waves signature series are overrated.

Almost all of waves stuff (couple tools are worth something), 2/3 of the Soundtoys bundle (though getting it for black friday makes it kinda worth it), Avid, Slate, d16, kilohearts, 90% of NI stuff... I'm sure I'm missing some stuff I don't even have anymore.

Lol. It's the Reaper users that make it overrated propping it up as the GOAT. But it's dirt cheap and the CPU usage is in it's own class. I just can never do anything complicated in it without having to google wtf I'm even supposed to do.

If you ask me, it had to be Waves and Sonnox in FX department, they are not not bad, just overrated.
Also, I think FLUX has amazing set of plugins (some of them are unique) and probably most "clinical" plugins on the market, but the amount of money they are asking for those is just ridiculous. FabFilter stuff is better choice for waaaay less money, although not as clean and musical as Flux.
I would even dare to put some of the Softube and iZotope products on the list as there are better and cheaper alternatives, but, of course, that doesn't mean these two are bad, just a bit overpriced.
Synths-wise, probably most of NI stuff, they are good, but not that good as they are probably company that sells most synths on the market. I also don't understand the hype about Sylenth1. It is good but not that good, c'mon although it's not too overpriced but for that price I bought something else.
I also have to mention Synapse Audio's Legend and Dune as most underrated synths on the market.

AVID, Adobe, Waves, Native Instruments and iZotope,
just to be clear, that doesn't mean those would be too bad, they just aren't as good as people tend to see them among others,
I consider them overrated as of they are long time players on the market, being lucky to be backed up by outdated but solid user base - just because plenty people use them doesn't make them automatically best ;)

What if 95% of commercial vst are over-rated? I'm pretty sure someone spending nothing can get the same results as if spent $ 1000 ...

Do not consider judging the song in the link below, artistically, but keep in mind that there are only freeware in them. To know:

    Iblit:

    MT-PowerDrumKit:

    Grunt

No more a link. Unfortunately dead and buried in the past.

Not plugin but... Pro Tools. Shitty GUI and workflow, shitty engine, shitty prices, shitty company policies. Can't wait for the day the industry as a whole drops this piece of shit.

Next... Toontrack~! because if I wanted all my drums to sound like weak plastic garbage that requires a heap of processing, I'd pick them! seriously, it doesn't matter what drums they record, how they record it, where they record it or who engineers it, it sounds like the same old drek and I honestly prefer 90's drum modules over them.

Softube - worst amp sims I've ever heard, and that includes cheap old Zoom 505 multieffects. Lame spring reverb, Tube Tech comp that doesn't sound any different from your DAW's stock comp, and a heap of other products that don't merit their price or reputation. OK reverb, but not for 300$.

Airwindows - get way too much praise for mediocre products, stupid no-gui schtick and terrible gain staging.

Soundtoys - OK, they have some nice stuff, but again... gain staging! is it so hard to add a master output knob that doesn't change the behaviour of the saturation?

    Altiverb - ...ew.

TimewArp is indeed one of the coolest things ever. The reverb alone is ridiculously good.
Remember seeing some video on YouTube where this guy was playing some shitty rhodes emulation through it's filters. Sounded amazing.

I'm gonna say Propellerhead - - Ernst "Hell will freeze over before we add VST support" dickhead..... Over priced toybox and toys. Half baked implementation hipster crap.
    Waves - Overpriced, over-rated
Softube - Overpriced, overrated and whats with having to download their fuckin installer of 700mb+ to only install one plugin? Idiots...

Hi Von. yeah, you're one of the funniest guys in here. But the funny thing is that I am also a Reaper user (although not so much a "reapeater" 'cos I use DP and MAGIX Samplitude Pro X3 also). I like the customization features that Reaper offers, but I really think that the current GUI layout could be remodeled to make things more accessible/intuitive, especially for newbies. I don't like Reaper native VSTs plugins, but I like MIDI plugins, scripts and the improvements in automation, stretch markers, rulers, (semi-)spectral editing and especially the constant updates.

Besides, to be fair, I purchased Cubase 7.5 but I'm hoping to have a more robust PC to install it (along with a bigger SSD HD and the chance to upgrade it to the latest version which should take a while). I really enjoy its GUI layout, native plugins, mixer and, above all, the notation features offered, but I think the updates are very expensive, which makes this DAW unfriendly (I can't fail to notice the antipathy that people here have for this policy - very rightly).

I know bro, its just AS "locker room" humor, in reality it doesnt matter much to me really. I know some people here who make amazing music in Reaper.

NEXUS 2. Everything sounds 1 dimensional, and like a lowpass filter is on every patch.

A lot of Native instruments stuff in the sense of functionality. They have some nice libraries and instruments but the implementation and programming is super clunky.

Protools... this thing is a dinosaur. I hate when I am forced to use it over something more cutting edge like Studio One. The only thing I like about protools is its stock fx, like avid's lofi.

Trying to figure out what to get with the money I saved up this month: One (1) plugin for nearly $1800 OR stay at this luxury hotel in Belize for almost the whole month of January away from everybody in my life for just $1656.

This really is totally the toughest decision I've ever had to make in my entire life. *Sarcasm intended*
