tell me a wonderful(mix/mastering)trick

    They are old but i still did not find nothing like it.
    the result is similar to Waves MV2(which is insane) but these guys are unique and always work well TOGETHER(one after another in serial:bow:).
    Do you need punch with cool tone?. try this

    Use pink noise if you're a beginner searching for a decent starting point or you are forced to use earbuds to mix.

  4. If you have microphones, re-record certain tracks with them through your monitors. ITB electronic drum tracks in particular are wonderfully transformed by giving then a fresh sense of space and air. Experiment with both distance and proximity placement to find the ideal sound for your track. I first did this with a bit I recorded of the sounds of people having coffee at a cafe in Italy with my horrible Samsung phone microphone. The process of the stinky recorded sound cursing through my signal chain transformed the very lo-fi recording into a three dimension smooth, interesting, new and vibrantly alive track. It was an AHA! moment to hear the huge difference it made. Happy holidays.

    mix at real low volume. So low that you can easy have a conversation going.

    Theres multiple gains from going about it this way. with the most obviously one, more time working without ear-fattigue.
    It does take practice if your use to working with the volume knob set to stun :D

    i do this also. i slap VUMT Duo on the master at -12db.
    i figure if i mix everything quietly i can boost overall loudness later if desired.
    as above poster mentioned it's good for your ears. imo also, if the track is quiet-ish it is easier to concentrate on subtleties.

    Random mixing advices:

    - On bass sounds always compress BEFORE you EQ. Compressing can reduce the bass amount.
    - Bass frequencies always react sluggish on a compressor.
    - Keep bass frequencies centered in the mix.
    - Some vocals require up to 3 or more compressors in chain. Especially when you have vocals like Prince.
    - Remove the nosy sound in vocals by removing frequencies from 800 to 1000Hz
    - Always keep your mix mono-compatbile by using a correlation meter (stereo meter)

    1. Put a fab-filter pro q 2 style spectrum analyzer ( to use only as a visual meter{ NOT the eq section}
    on your master fader in order to have a meter that shows your sound energy throughout the frequency range in real-time BEFORE it hits your playback system and room (which alters the sound)[​IMG]
    2. have decent as playback system as possible , coupled with high end headphones or in ear monitors to go back and forth with.[​IMG]
    3. Take the best songs in similar genres you believe are of the highest quality to use as reference tracks to specifically A/B between your mix or master and the reference tracks.

    4.use analog saturation in layers (and very gently) to do the job of compressors and limiters and to thicken and fatten the sound[​IMG][​IMG][​IMG] [​IMG]
    5. after a thick rich harmonics foundation has been built in such a way where to your ears it is more round and fat and naturally compressed and limited( not sounding like distortion though)ONLY then use small amount of eq for each track with wide Q never raising or lowering more than +3 or-3db.[​IMG][​IMG]
    6.now that your track transients are even and the volume is even throughout NOW use very gentle compression never higher than 3:1 ratio to actually and purposely shape the transients creatively for the results you need.[​IMG][​IMG]
    7.now your gain staging and transients and volumes are perfect, NOW it is time to add reverb, delay and spatial buss and aux to your tracks where on average the output of the spatial or reverb or delay is about -20 db below your signal like a cushin to sit on a space to exist in.

    8. NOW its time to twist those knobs by MIXING your volume faders and panning faders.

    9.use your reference tracks A/B to your mix

    10.when feeling close to done alternate your mix on your monitors and your high end headphones or in ear monitors.

    11.burn a cd to play in cars, bedroom ipods etc.( of course play on the best systems you can also!) (see how it slams homies.)

    Mixing 808's??
    Well, this guy is amazing for them. The trick here is select SOLO in MID LO section and tweak de X-over searching for the right 808 low end. Then turn XL to 100 % and a little drive for compensation, always in SOLO. This trick is nice for clean 808's

    The only mixing secret is to get neutral reference speakers/headphones and to invest money into acoustic room treatment.
    You can have great engineering skills but if mixing on colored/hyped tools your tracks will lack everything that is overly represented in your listening tools/room .

    Also choose your speakers wisely! Always check the frequency response curve of the speakers. It should be linear as possible. See image below.

    Also you need to know the frequency crossover between woofer and tweeter (2 way speakers) See image below:

    1) Gain stage at -18dbfs ITB.
    2) Use a gain rider (waves etc.) instead of compression to control the volume and maintain the dynamics.

    1. Mix in low volume
    2. Use chorus/Haas for soundwidening.
    3. Like everything in life (except wife), is better to use two of the same to do a job (plugins and hardware) to make them work less, than to stress.
    4. Buy a good pair of reference headphones (i.e. hd600/650) and alternate between speakers.
    5. Remember to volume match changes to be able to compare.
    6. Do yourself a favour and mix in Horrortones (avantone mixcube).
    7. Use 2 eqs: one to correct issues at the beginning of the chain (ffpro2), and one after all the processing is done to tone balance (ffsaturn, sieq, anyone that allows broad/wide changes)

    SUPER TRICK: eqing method: from bass to treble, move a relatively narrow eq up and down throughout the spectrum to choose which freqs you want, in a SUBTLE way. You'll do a lot with little change. Harsh changes are to correct errors (unwanted freqs).

    We should never use the ad-verb "always" indeed.


    I feel like it's overstated to have good reference monitors and acoustic treatment for producing & mixing situations, leave that crap for your mastering engineer.

    Just my little noob secret: I found out that RealGuitar (and other MusicLab Guitars) can really be sound nice, better than Orange Tree Samples. The trick is to do two separate mono tracks and do hard pan left and right (or something like that).

    Mix at REALLY low volume. So low that you can barely hear your mix. If you don't hear the essential sounds for your song (be it vocals, a guitar or the rhythm/groove collapses because not enough percussion is poking through anymore) then you must adjust those things in your mix (the usual stuff: fader balancing or reducing dynamics so they pop better or boosting a freq while attenuanting the same freq on conflicting tracks etc.).
