Hello Everyone,

Some months ago, i opened up a challenge on audiosex in an attempt to get the best master possible on a track I recorded. The submissions were incredible from almost everyone. It's insane to think of the talent level here on this forum. I forever feel indebted to everyone here and all the many submissions I've gotten.

Since the song was never openly released to the public, I decided to follow up and let everyone hear it and accumulate thoughts. Feel free to provide advice/criticism also. But I really hope you guys like it. Here is the video we shot for my first official song release- "Vulnerable". I posted it on my YT channel that i started some months back. Hopefully it will help generate some traffic to it. I truly hope the public loves it and i hope my audiosex family does too! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU guys for helping a young man achieve his dreams!

Great song, i kinda think the video didnt do justice for the song but i applaud the effort nonetheless. For me the video should've been more intimate in the beginning then as your fear grew you back away from her putting 4 walls between you like your trapped in yourself.

It also lack substance, like i want to know what you said to her at the dinner table lol.

Then near the end when you do come your senses that you love her you go above and beyond to her and either she takes you back or lives without you. I didnt feel like you were vulnerable, i was thinking more like you were lost in your emotions which was blocking your judgement.

Vocals, i would've loved to hear a dramatic drop/Hook (like a heartbeat pumping drop) as you did a falsetto or crescendo at the end really opening you up, i see the potential. Vocals didnt feel tight, and you really could've capitalize on your breathing to express your vulnerability like you were exhausted. Everything just so smooth like you were fine being who you were?

In no way i want you to think i was being harsh, just wanted to give you some solid advice and to remember this is truly in my opinion, and you may feel totally different about it and i will respect you 100%.

Wow those are some beautiful perspectives. Definitely upbuilding criticism. No worries, i'm not soft skinned lol. I think you brought up some good thoughts i didn't or wouldn't have thought about. Certainly a different way of going about it. Your way probably would have worked also. The growing fear and me backing away makes a lot of sense.

As for the dinner table thing, perhaps i'm misunderstanding you or perhaps you didn't notice, but i was staring at the girl walking by causing the girlfriend to get upset. So i wasn't really saying anything in that scene. It was more the action that got me in trouble (don't all of us men? haha).

Nice tips for the vocals. Especially regarding the breathing. Perhaps I'm showing a bit of my inexperience there. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

Hi there Enyo! I'm gonna put some feedback because I like your track here and hoping you will reach some degree of commercial success there. I'm really proud the amount of effort you put in there. Just take note my feedback might bias towards the musical works and visual presentations from overall artists on Vevo Channel lol.

TBH your song and your music video are very well made there. Only one thing which I felt is missing from those overall works & presentations I've been referring about. The visual presentation. Maybe put more artistry effort on the visual presentation. I think you have a great video there, maybe run it through cinematic effects or any other visual creative fx over it. That's all<3

 

hi . Glad you liked the song. Yes i must admit, I agree with you there. Some effects here and there would have been really nice. I believe I suggested that after watching another video and was told my track wasn't as uptempo so the effects I desired (glitches, etc...) would feel out of place. I'm not a videographer so I just respected his viewpoint/decision. But thanks for chiming in. Good things to take note of for next time

 

Seems like you worked hard on all of it, I can respect that. I hope it works out for you. As always don't doubt what you've done or how it was done just move and keep on doing it rather than reliving it.

 

Great shots/ideas for your MV, however, a few technical notes.

I notice a few shots are juddery. I think due to FPS. Next time, you should make sure across ALL your shots, ALL your cameras, ALL your editing programs & projects, the video FPS is THE SAME (or multiples of the same &/ try not to use speed-changing FX unless , again, it's a multiple). This should make everything a bit more smooth & consistent/cohesive.

If you have access to shutter controls, have a look at this

to make things look more natural.

Some shots look cheap & (too) focused. Maybe you could apply some motion blur if available.

 

Great job on the track. Try to inject some money for the promotion on social platforms, fb, etc. There are publicists, agents that can expose your music to a lot of people for not that much money. Unfortunately this is a very neglected area in many diy home producers.

Hey @Von_Steyr! Always good to see you on here. That is a great idea what you suggested. I am not very knowledgeable in this field of expertise. I'll message you for additional info/guidance. I wouldn't know where to start.

If anyone else has promotion tips, please share. i would really love to get this song "out there".

Also i would start the song at 0:50 without the girl`s narrative, for a more radio friendly sound, to get a more cohesive mix. The problem is the modern audience, it suffers under ADHD like symptoms and before the song even starts properly they will skip the song.
You have to grab their attention fast, especially if you are new in this game.

 

Ah very interesting. I'm not really on the technical video side of things, but solid advice to pass on to my videographer and anyone i'll work on in the future. I'm not sure if he used the same or not. But thank you for the tip.

 

We wanted to go for the cinematic feel so that's why we had that intro. I personally like it. No worries, that's just for the video. The actual song on itunes, spotify, etc..obviously doesn't have that. Video is already generating a number of views (faster than my other projects) so i'll probably leave it. Next time, i'll consider just going straight into the song.

haha I like your mindset @Introninja. Forward thinking. Good question. I've also been thinking about that. I suppose I have to follow it up with another song in the near future. Not necessarily a music video, but at least a song. Maybe i can keep making instrumental videos turning into songs like I have been until I can release another official song. And as @Von_Steyr mentioned, I need to get Vulnerable onto the hands of professional promoters for it to gain some real traction. So that's gonna be my main focus for now.

 

Hey Enyo, as a pro who sold a few records (millions actually) I can tell you 3 things :
1- I don't like your song ...like at all lol
2- You have a great potential (voice-charisma)
3- the video is amateur when you think about what you can do with an iphone these days.

if you're interested with a collab and you're not tied to a contract, lemme know ;-)

 

nice job.at 0:35 would be a reasonable start point to keep someone interested hooked watching the video. you don't need to be over clarifying, people understand situations with just a hint if its done right. or else they get bored (im a broadcast music programmer btw)

the vocals are really nice. the track deserves a chance through some serious remixes, skip favors if they are not up to a certain quality level. the beat is ok but it would be worth exploring what other talented people could bring to the table. it shouldn't be so difficult since you have a decent product already..

1. lol that's allright. i can take that. Not all music is for everyone or to everyone's taste so i can understand that. I will say you are in a small minority though. Thanks for your thoughts anyway.
2. Thank you man. i appreciate that. i didn't begin singing until 16 so yes there's a lot I still gotta learn and getting better at.
3. I would expect a pro to think so. We weren't exactly working with pro budget lol. I personally loved it. But i'm not a pro lol.
