    The trick is double click!

Never understood this, probably my pc is one-user only and automatically administrator by default. Never used Run As Admin solution, because to me it does nothing.

UAC is there for one good reason: To warn you about any potentially suspicious Admin-level activity, e.g. while brosing the web as a non-admin user. If you have internet access on the same machine, it's a good idea to leave it enabled.

And no Microsoft Apps accessible anymore!
My advice is to do this only with a VERY GOOD Internet protection like Kaspersky.

    "Big Fat Important Note:
Changing UAC security settings is not a good thing, and you shouldn’t do it."

An yet is one of the first things I do when installing system! :hahaha:

If you know what you are doing w/ you comp for every - single - fuckin - thing (and you should!), you don't even need an AV
Did UAC ON ever saved your ass?? Well it surely did not mine!

On the side note: giving a prog admin privileges probably have other (positive) consequences.. but there are smart ppl, who know lots bout this and can give you advice that's actually usable LOL

UAC was created as a pathetic Linux based security.
Problem ? As Windows s*cks security wise...a lot of programs simply DON'T WORK with UAC enabled and "Run as Admin"
For a simple reason : it don't "propagate" to another EXE/MSI.
See how many ppl need to run their DAW as Admin to get an installer working...

Solution ? Switch to REAL security systems like OSX or Linux. Or use a good additional protection.
    And disable that CRAP !

I'm certain it's possible to code up a broken executable that will fail to do stuff (man has an infinite capacity for failure), but ...give me an example?
Lin is a non-starter when it comes to DAWs (you'll be stuck in WINE). OSX is an overpriced, dumbed-down walled garden for 15-yr.-old girls & trendy hipsters. Offers roughly the same type of security as a 5mph speed limit/no roads/overpriced gasoline -- fewer auto accidents, but I think I'll pass :)

Yes, disabling UAC is one of many good steps when setting up a PC dedicated for music production.

For the past 20 years, the way to go was to have your "MUSIC STUDIO PC" not even connected to the internet at all. Now, today there are times where you want to connect for 2 or 3 minutes here and there to update a driver, google something technically related, install newest drivers/freeware to setup newly formatted PC, or to collab - well, ok. But, to truly extract every ounce of power for music production, stay offline and turn all unneeded processes off, remove unnecessary services, no antivirus/defender/firewall etc., make system tweaks, use portable freeware programs for admin use. NO BANKING etc.. on these machines! And, of course, back-up your original works often. Use your i3 laptop for everyday use. You shouldn't need security on a machine used for production and 99% disabled from the web.

Use this *.bat file to toggle network on/off quickly.

    ...my view on the matter.

    You are a 100% right.
For ex if I don't launch Studio One as an Admin on Win10, the DAW crashes after loading some Softube plugins...

^nah, use a bunch of different DAWs, including Fruity Loops, but an app that crashes unless granted elevated privileges is the failure of the devs/your team of choice/your config, not Windoze security.

I agree that it's a shame and disgrace for the developpers that we have to use this workaround but beside that I don't really care since S1 works fine and allow me to have the time of my life (well, kinda).

No problem, most are too busy producing to engage in OS trolling.

Disabling UAC is one of the first things I do on every audio workstation with Windows. It just makes things much easier to do and knowing MS security it is just a ridiculous POS and PITA to give a typical user false sense of security. Typical Microsoft. It is enough to disable it from the control panel. Doing that changes the registry value.

And make backups to an external HD... of at least the most precious data you have [porn]... regularly.
