1) its a bit too slow
2) it sounds too sophisticated to sound 80s imo - there's some reverb going on, turn it down. Also, maybe try some bass cuts on some of your instruments.

Sounds good man. Really got that 80's vibe

More like a detective movie score than workout. I'd keep the tempo and just drop the "workout" description.

I would mix the drums down a bit, sometimes they are overpowering like at 1:49
80's pushed the cheese synths to the front more than drums.

Too slow for me, too. Drums are just a bit too loud, it's mainly the bd, I think. Great cheap synths.

i think overall colors are 80s. maybe do reference study from 80s midi to gain more insight on 80s midi/song arrangement. i feel like the missing part is that 80s excitement. but that doesn't mean your track is bad. keep it up

Very nice mate. I agree with vaiman and No Avenger about the drums, especially the kick volume in the mix. Most elements that would make up a typical track of that genre are there. Now i am not an authority on Italo Disco but it's one of those genres i grew up on listening to and also played, to some extent. The ingredient i find missing (Futurewine identified it as the 80's excitement) is the catchy melodies (either vocal lines or synth lines) that made the Italo Disco genre so popular. No matter what the peculiarities of the genre were, it was still mainly songs and as such they were all mostly built and arranged around a central melody. So, it is all sounding almost correct but lacks the real "cheesiness for some - beauty for others", if you know what i mean. Therefore, bring those hooks to the table bro. What i can do to get you inspired is not much and the music is already there but here you go.
The best example examples i can give (which of course you may know) would be Casco -"Cybernetic Love" (1983), Mr. Flagio -"Take a Chance" (1983) and the start of it all (for me) Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase" (1978). Also on the more poppy side of things i can't forget Kano's "Another Life" (1983) and Gazebo's work, 1982's "Masterpiece" and "I Like Chopin" (1983).
Ps: Nailing the signature drum sounds of that era is very important. The Linn LM-1 (and its successor the Linndrum), the Oberheim DMX and 1983 Emu's Drumulator were the sht back then. Roland TR-909 and 707 were also used in some later tracks. Get those samplers cooking mate Good job.

 

As my humble reminder, it could also help you form a more "spherical" opinion about that era's sound if you studied other parts of the electro disco sound as well. Funkier parts of the Italo genre like Gino Soccio's work or Electro funk/rnb/soul like Midnight Star's Scientific Love, closely relate to what you are trying to master. Here:

@taskforce Thank you so much for all these wonderful references and key points that makes an authentic 80s song. I will sure look into the points that you have raised and try to learn from them (hopefully able to come out with better output than this one, in my upcoming efforts).

The synth starting at 1:11 is a bit too loud now..

@No Avenger - Have sped up the tempo by 5 beats (previously was on 100 BPM) and have volume leveled on the synths once again
