Hibernate saves power by writing the information in memory out to the hard drive and essentially shutting down, the benefit being that bringing your PC back up is much quicker than bringing it up from a fully off state.
That’s where the hiberfil.sys file comes in: Windows writes the information in memory to that file.

"powercfg -h off" from elevated command line

 

or boot the system with a Linux Live CD and delete whatever You want.
...and don`t forget to disable hibernation in windows before deleting that file

 

To delete the hiberfil.sys file, follow the instructions:

Right-click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator." Then the command will work.

Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
Right-click Command Prompt
Select Run as administrator
Grant permisssion to change system settings
In this privileged command prompt window, enter: powercfg -h off

There are other ways too but I would suggest you to read more about them before deciding which one would be best for you.

 

Hi, i am superliquidsunshine, the village idiot. Why would I want to rid my computer of hiberfil-sys?

 

It's taking considerable amount of HDD space, depending on the size of your RAM. Further, hibernating on SSD drive shortens its lifespan, as with every hibernation, the whole RAM has to be dumped into that file.
Best is to use standby/suspend mode or simply to turn off the machine. Most PCs made in the last 5 years can start within 20-30 seconds with SSD.
