That would at least make people considerate when posting a reason for their negative ranking, but do remember that moderators are not getting paid to to moderate the reasons so - "just because I wanted to," or "it made me feel small in my nono spot," are going to be valid reasons.

I myself do not really see any other way than the reporting system for this. What you might consider a personal attack might be precipitated by what someone else considers a personal attack as well... whether that stems from two very dissimilar ideological view points that are so opposed to each other that the mere mention of supporting view point X is actually a very personal attack on person Y. This has happened in the past, here and elsewhere and happens everyday in the world we live in.

This can be healthy and it is part of the human condition; these 'personal attacks' allow the person who might have caused unintentional offense to be on guard that their particular view point might not be as ubiquitous or universal as they they thought, outside of their personal scope of acquaintances. It also reminds that person who was slighted by what the first party thought was just a factual way the world was perceived (as subjective as such things are) that there are still people in the world that hold such view points and they should be on their guard as well.

The above is a worthwhile exchange of information from one party to the other, a pressure release valve and a reality check. Also, in a medium which is inherently safe like the internet - unless someone follows you out of scope and harasses you out of vendetta, the harm is minimal and the exchange of view points is well worth the discomfort in most circumstances... though there is as always a point where regardless of how worthy the conversation has been, that the thread should be locked as there is no more to say on the subject besides slinging feces at each other.

For all that - I think the reporting system works, extremely well.

For sure, though 15 posts can be made in less than 10 minutes by someone if they are really motivated to post "mah konact dizn't work, I plug my electric guitar to the sound jack from mah komputor and no sound is coming out of knotak... wtf..."

I have been reading through these posts as one does, and in all honesty I wasn't going to comment further on what most people have suggested, but when you read something as 'poetic' isn't quite the word I'm looking for exactly, but my god what an image you've conjured up here @Herr Durr. How could I NOT respond to probably the funniest analogy I think I have ever read!

But I suppose irony can be pretty ironic sometimes!

I have thought for some time there should be a 'rant' section somewhere in a dark and seedy part of the site that never gets used, where people can vent their anger towards other people also wanting to vent their anger, where anything goes, without reproach. Anyone going there does so knowing what they are going there for.

Whilst I realise that isn't going to fix all the arguments but it might at least give Mods the chance to say. "Ok if you want to fight it out between you, go there and do so!"

It will keep the rest of us from having to see it!

Well this is timely...

I didn't leave because of anything that anyone did. I had some personal problems that culminated in me temporarily losing my will to make music, and then losing my confidence in my music after going such a long time without creating anything. Took me several months to figure everything out. I just kind of avoided AS/AZ in the interim because it was kind of awkward to explain

Anyway, I'm here now. I haven't checked my inbox yet but I'm sure I've got lots and lots of PMs to respond to

So yeah... sorry about disappearing into thin air. I've got my musical mojo back (somewhat) and I'll probably be around now and then


After seeing Von's initial reply to this thread... Is "R2R is angry" is still a thing here? lol. Seems like a lot of the same arguments, again and again and again. Ah, home sweet home.

Really, it's about the bickering without end that turns into personal attacks (name calling, denigration, etc.) which eventually derails all useful discussion going on in a thread, and causes different contributors to "check out" of the conversation. It's primarily about not losing anymore members that were really helpful sharing their knowledge with us.
That's my take. Someone correct me if I've missed the mark here.
