This interface could have been a home run. No stereo recording? Sure, fine. Same knob for monitors and headphones? Whatever. But no mix knob for balancing direct input monitoring? Amateur mistake. I understand the minimalistic approach but that mix knob has become sort of a standard to me because it sucks to have to fiddle around and lower the mix and raise the output knob to get the balance right. Ruins the fluidity of a session and then you have to do the opposite then rinse and repeat. Any budget interface without one in my honest opinion has missed the mark. I'm talking to you Focusrite 2i2 ._. And I used to want the 2i2 :bash:Still a nice design. Very minimalistic. It's just that one feature I can't live without now.
Nothing bad to say about the NT1 mic. One of the quietest mics in the world. The anniversary edition is on my wishlist. And that preamp sounds nice.
P.S. The discrete headphone output is a nice plus. Whatever that really meant :v
And I quote "Not only does the AI-1 deliver crystal clear audio to your computer software, but headphones have never sounded sweeter thanks to the discrete studio-quality headphone output and level control."
P.S.S. I know what it means. Be nice. I'm just being sarcastic because the above might just be marketing hype too. Do they sound 'sweeter' or are they preserving signal integrity? :dunno:
P.S.S.S All the above being said, if the interface alone came in at the right price it could very well could become the next big budget interface.

To be fair... they could've picked a better mic to show off if that was the goal. That's the $200 one.

I wonder what black magic they worked to pull the sibilance out of this recording. Don't pull my fucking leg Rode I own that mic. I know what it sounds like. Good mic otherwise, but fuck me, the high end takes so much work I bought an SM7B just so I wouldn't have to deal with that.

I don't get why I would want that when for almost the same price I can get the NT-USB.

I guess the NT1 mic is in the video because it´s the part of the kit. And YES Im sure you´re right: it´s not the NT1 that´s been used for this movie.

Jezz it´s just a beginners kit they´re selling, so dont judge this too hard.

RØDE makes gear in many different qualities and price ranges - some of their products are really good and other not that good.

I actually like the nt1. I was just fuckin around. Rode is really pretty good for the price. Case in point, i owned an nt1-a when i got my nt1-kit. Both very clear sounding mics, but both have sibilance problems.

the old nt1-a (silver) was a bright mic indeed.

also the sm7b is fantastic are you using it with a cloudfilter ?

Yeah they´re have indeed good products for the price. I´ve owned several of their mics since way back - I still have a few of them... here´s the list:
    -NT1000
I never really got used to them - they were too much in the high frequencies.
    -NT2-A
    Great mic - love them.
    -K2
Nice mic without a low cut etc which is stupid.
    -NT4
    Awesome mic.

NT3 - meh.. don't know why I bought it now.. probably because of some "review" and being lower in price, have not found a real
use for it, sort of brittle and trebly, have heard it's good as a "room mic" , in other words, when it doesn't really have a very good
    application

NTK - people complain about you.. but I think you're just fine for vocal/guitar accompaniment

K2- NTK that can change polarity essentially? but supposedly sounds better too for some reason

NTR - haven't used it yet.. supposedly good for vocals, as well as drum overheads, and cab mic'ing, haven't heard anyone here
    mention using it yet...

not to slag the interface.. but it looks just as @phloopy noted... beginner kit... as long as the innards have some
of the Rode integrity then more power to them... I remain a big Rode fan

For me, RØDE is a company better to be avoided. I won't buy anything from people that obviously don't know the technical details of their own products!
Why that? Well, my experience with RØDE's support led me to that statement: I once mailed them with the request for info on whether the NTR has a symmetrical response from front and back (so that it would be suitable as M/S stereo side mic) or a slightly asymmetrical (like for instance the Royer R series or some AEA mics; so the NTR would not be suitable as M/S side mic).
A manufacturer should know about this, shouldn't he?
But not one word in response from RØDE...

I couldn't care less about the little black box, but I was surprised by the quality of vocals and I wondered what Rode mike could that be? Then I saw it's NT1. Weird, as I remember that mic for it's brittle highs and sibilance problems, same as some other guys here stated. Thank you guys for clearing this up. They must have used a different mike for recording vocals. Marketing...

Although, on another though, I remember reading somewhere about this new black NT1 that they made it sound more vintage and with less brittle highs, thus less sibilance problems.

Now I actually wonder wtf? Has anybody got this new black NT1 and can confirm that? If that's the new NT1 it sounds really nice for a budget condenser mike to my ears.

p.s. I'm a fan of Shure, Sennheiser, Electro-Voice and Audio-Technica mikes. Darker and vintage sounding ones. Still looking for AT4047SV...

Agree wholeheartedly.. clearly the demo sounds fabulous.. much more so than an NT1 would warrant...
I wonder if they are mendacious enough to record with one of their better mics... but display this new NT1..
rotten tactics... but still technically a RØDE recording... if that is indeed the new NT1.. it's a damn good value !
