Hello folks. Does anyone knows how to achive a similar high end? Maybe a bitcrusher?




Is this achived by mastering or mixing?

Yeah that sparkly high end is something mastering will accomplish for you if needed, no need to worry about that much during your mixdown. Man that second track's highs were nasty.

You could slam a nice linear phase EQ on your output during mixing and shelve the highs up till you hear it too, but the idea is that a different guy with a nice treated room, excellent speakers and ears can listen to it for you and add the same effect judiciously with a 5000$ analog EQ. All for maybe $50 or whatever per track. You begin to see why that shelf-it-yourself idea is a little pointless. If it's already been boosted, mastering guy can't do much.

If you don't care and want to do it anyways (that's my style too), try also having a LowPass filter on and shelf the highs up, right into the filter, which will have the effect of eating some of the harshness and rounding off the result (more like the first track) because otherwise you might end up with radical highs (like the second one).

MIXING , is why those tracks sound exactly sound like that.
the mastering just sweetens what is already there
it is based on the frequency slope you develop for your track when mixing.




each instrument sits in a specific location of the frequency response.
the volume they get set to is based on which slope you want.
