There is an app for android called Viper4android FX, that has a feature called headphone surround +.
It simply makes my mixes great when I check them on my smartphone with headphones. For example, the metal guitars are heard better and defined very good against rest of the mix.
Also, when I listen to other artists songs, most of the time, it sounds better.

I actually want to know how I can achieve this in the DAW for generic music consumers. I mix on headphones.

BTW it's still not 'real surround', it's a combination of hearing simulation via HRTF/crossfeed, and simple stereo expansion (see here https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,112842.0.html )

    See some HRTF VSTs here

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...SUL5SlWSDGZBhnDXg4RqD_0B8_QXINTYr_U6p/pubhtml

BTW if you're mixing on headphones, DO use HRTF to monitor occasionally, but switch it off for your final export since it may sound terrible on speakers, since HRTF is designed SPECIFICALLY for headphones.

    >55% of music listeners use their smartphones,

Yes, but it didn't say through phones WITH headphones. THing is,

    • If you target headphones, it will sound good on headphones ONLY
    • If you target speakers, it will sound good on speakers AND headphones

I was about to delete my HRTF link last night because I realize there's too much fakery going on other than HRTF so my spreadsheet=irrelevant.

Stereo width expansions are not that mono-compatible, this is esp. importannt cuz many fones still have MONO speakers,

Perhaps this doc is mpore relevant

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...rXsk7rfD-94yuL6LiwQ0QCzOYn2wlDLZhNhz6/pubhtml

it is suggested 2 Use stereoizers on buses/tracks only, & not the hwole mix.

Because I don't have speakers or monitors I should use waves Nx or similar plugin, if I want to target the speakers. I should mess around to see what goes. If I want to use waves Nx, for example, I need to use it on just mix bus, right?

Thank you for the new spreadsheet.
For new VSTs you mentioned I should try different configurations to see what goes.

Just stick to mixing in stereo, and add the width and depth while tracking, producing and mixing. Delays, reverbs, Haas, HRTF, M/S EQ, M/S compression, and a mix and match of them all.

Or simply buy speakers/monitors. Your mixes will benefit.

I don't have the cash to buy speaker or new headphones. I should do my best with my existing tools. Maybe, I do a strange job, and release two kind of mixes for different situations. :invision: the only thing that gets really better are metal rhythm guitars that are stereo. maybe using these plugins on the guitar buss won't hurt the mix for listening on speakers.
