I have that installed on one of my computers too. A lot of people are put off because they hate using script though

I was suggesting that it's easier for an audio workstation. Running an audio workstation-studio computer with Internet, AV and Firewall is hindering the computer's [OS's actually] performance by a lot and you're exposing your precious data to possible infections and consequently losing it.

I can't believe some people are even so lazy to install VirtualBox and another OS in it, to use it for Internet. Is it really easier to have to use an AV, Firewall, Antimalware? In my extensive experience all these apps are just more trouble than useful for anything and if you use your brain when you browse, you most probably won't get infected with anything anyway. However, better be safe than sorry.

Installing VirtualBox - 5 minutes. Downloading and installing Debian Linux in it - 20 minutes. Then setup a shortcut on the desktop to it and now you can have Internet with two clicks instead of one. Well actually, you have to enable the network card, too. Damn, three clicks! I assure you that complete security of your production OS is worth it.

Setting up all the security apps in Windows takes more time than that and it's annoying and usually causes all kinds of problems. Especially when you are computer illiterate. The less apps, the better.

On my PC I have Debian Linux and VirtualBox with W7 and another Debian, and I have another boot with W7 for audio. As clean as it gets. I have my trusty, old XP on another HD, too. It's not really a hassle...

    Cheers!

A really good standalone virus checker i personally use is called>>>
    "exterminate it"

Its not free and you need to pay for a yearly subscription but thats like £10 -17$ a year or somethn small like that..
Worth it too...It hasnt not even the once had a false positve whatsoever since i first got a licence last november...

Finds some real difficult and hard to remove malware/adware too..
Doesnt protect your system in real time though....
Also you can send them a submit state request and they will promptly take a closer look at your system and send you the fix if needed..
I had them take a look at my pc and the fact i had so many warez plugs etc made no difference and my system came bk clean...

Tbh i only really came across it coz at the time i was struggling to remove certain infections and when i did find it ,itwas a life saver and it does not lie....

If it tells your infected...Youre infected...

Same one here. I like Cinnamon also.
Gnome is to much animation and KDE is well wired at this point.

  10. No antivirus or shit like dat is better, If you make music, unless you go download and install crap from sites like softonic and get tons of shit installed then you need to start crying that an antivurs can save you from a brutal system format xD i havent used an antivirus in like 5+ years. still clean since win 8. antivirus will only slow it down. + you can still download porn without it. You will b fine bruv

Install kaspersky and forget the rest: it updates automatically every hour and in a totally silent way. Enjoy and also install Diskeeper: it defragments the disk in an automatic and also imperceptible way, and therefore with these two applications, the operation of the computer will always be more stable and smooth.

And, of course, it's not that expensive: an additional, dedicated, non-web-connected PC.

Searching around net seems that Bitdefender is the best choice for security and speed....I would like to move from Norton AV (I hate it, I hate it, dont'ask me why I still use it) to this one, any further experience here?

Kaspersky works well with crcked daw stuff. I use the free version without all the extras of the paid versions that only seem to slow my pc down. I haven't read the whole thread so don't know if it has been mentioned before, so here is the link to download it. https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/free-antivirus

in fact "best" would be isolated virtual environment, such as VirtualBox, VMWare, Parallels etc.. where you don't need to care about infection (especially if you'd let's say made a snapshot you'd reload, without saving the virtual image changes)
