JS plugins are awesome, but they are scripted plugins. So by definition are slow but much easier and faster to develop. No real competence of VST plugins.

On the other hand, VST plugins are not inefficient. It depends of the tools you use to program them. Most of Reaper plugins are available (and free) in VST format (ReaPlugs). Including the JS one. And they're almost as fast and lightweight as the native ones.
Many VSTs are slow and memory hungry just because of their fancy GUIs (that applies too to many Kontakt libs). Or because they use an "easy" but heavy framework without proper optimization.
The real downside of VSTs is that they are Steinberg property.

BTW, one more reason to congratulate FabFilter staff. The most perfect balance I've found: quality, memory and CPU usage, GUI...

Sorry friend, that was a joke without the proper emoti: :bleh:
Instead I used the old school text one: :P -> :-P

There shuould be another universal standard about emojis lol. Between whatsapp, skype, many forums, switching from computer to smartphone... damn many times I'm typing on the computer and expecting the auto-erection... I meannn the auto correction

@Xupito To answer your question, there's no reason why it shouldn't work.
In fact I would expect much lower latencies out of linux kernel, which unlike Windows is also offered with (realtime) RTOS extensions - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTLinux

What? VSTs are the property of those who create them, not Steinberg. Also, the VST protocol is free under GPL 3.0 (see: https://sdk.steinberg.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=282 )

If I recall correctly, that is (or was) also a requirement for software on linux, isn't it?

I guess we're just waiting for N.I., Fab Filter etc. to see Linux as a big enough market to port Linux versions of their stuff?

Or some kind of fancy VST-WINERY? Like, the DAW is Native but somehow able to run Windows plugins?

Or maybe someone can reverse-engineer these? If someone built an open-source Kontakt, created a fork, but it could run all the Kontakt instruments, that'd be incredible, but I guess totally unrealistic.

How well does it work? Would I be able to get similar performance as running Window Native? Run Kontakt, Fab Filter, etc?

I don´t have Linux machine at the moment, but there was one thread here(which i´m unable to find right now, i´ll do more research), that someone said he has linux machine running kontakt and other windows plugs including fx´s with small difference in processing power.

If that's the case it could be time for me to switch. I way prefer linux, but use so much Kontakt etc...

I just don't want to jump ship and then be forced to return again because something doesn't work.

    Android OS is not designed for low latency audio tasks, and (multichannel) audio device support is miserable;
iOS is very closed ecosystem with many limitations for file access and functionality
    :chilling:

native ARM version is indeed in Reaper lando to test, not sure which OS platform it's designed for though

    For the raspberi PI

If anyone wants some information about Raspberi Pi, ARM Linux etc hmu ill try to do my best with info.
Currently ARM is used in Smartphones, Tabs, etc.

I along with a bunch of others are trying to figure out how to recompile some of the linux plugins for ARM.
loading these plugins on a raspberry pi 4 could be insanely helpful to pro audio community in studio and out on the road.
..immensely. The options would be endless. Imagine having 1000's of digital effects on a 5 inch lcd screen that fits in your pocket.
Complete vocal , guitar effect chains with complete portability...
Gawd i wish i was smarter lol I can see the future just don't know how to achieve it yet.

So any underground dev's out there want a jump on the 5 years start messing with ARM.
