Amen -- I was wondering why DP was completely excluded from the list. It's been around longer than a lot of these DAWs.

As for the OP, as all DAWs now essentially use the same audio engines (CoreAudio for Mac, Windows WDM for Windoze), they're all going to sound the same no matter what, except for Pro Tools HD/HDX, which has its own engine. That used to not be the case pre-Intel processors -- I used to have MAS (Digital Performer) and Acadias (Opcode Vision DSP) loaded up on my old G3 iMac and they definitely sounded different from each other; you also couldn't have more than one audio engine running at a time. Same went for MIDI. DP used FreeMIDI and Vision used OMS and you could never run both simultaneously without a lot of software conflict.

The main issue now isn't a difference in sound, but a difference in workflow and functionality. Some DAWs handle MIDI and VIs better, some have better audio editing and routing features, some are incredibly complicated and some manage to fit everything on a single screen or two.

Whoever put that list together and not included Digital Performer should be doomed.

    Why? Motu is dreadful.
If I went a day without it freezing, crashing, or hanging I considered it a result.

Oh and I wouldn't shout about that with regards to being 'doomed,' it was Saint who put it together :P

I use to use Sequoia many moons ago, that was so good. Much better than Pro Tools, and stable too.

Had Samplitude, Cool Edit Pro, Cubase 4, Sonar and since Live 8 Suite, Ableton Live 9 Suite. Though the most expensive I think I stick to it because of the Session View and the stock plugins.

Their support is very good, never complained. Have a huge feature project going on with 60 cues in one file spread across chunks with multiple VEPs heavy loaded with plugins etc.

Project file is almost 600mb. No single glitch and crash through the whole 2 months project.

    Have a nice day!

Are you on a Mac or a PC? I've been using Digital Performer for about 18 years now on a Mac and I've never had a moment's problem with it, across PPC pre-Intel and Intel OS X operating systems, five different computers, three different audio interfaces and changeovers in DP's functionality that included bringing in VI support, AU support and VST support (not to mention making it cross-platform with Windoze for the last two versions). If you're getting consistent freezing, crashing and hanging on a Mac when thousands of other users aren't, maybe you ought to consider the possibility of user-side error? And if you're on a PC and having these problems, it's still early days for PC support and there's always SONAR. :winker:

yes indeed..back in primitive times when man still lived with dinosaurs the sound was discovered to be the same....what is different is the analog out d to a.....analog is diff of course coming out from one audio interface to the next, but that's not what we're talking about here. Volume and pan law are important in fake comparisons. Now nobody's done this test underwater yet so there still might be a chance one could sound better in those conditions.

Currently exploring Waveform.. kinda like its midi features. I was tiring from midi auto-generator tools, and looking for something easy and that i can translate the melody in my head and draw into piano roll. Looks like Waveform has such that interesting features to offer. Simple and minimalist.

I'm curious about Waveform too. Feedback please
To me, Capturing ideas as quickly as possible is very important too. For that purpose, I often use an older iPad with either Auxy, Genome or Audio Evolution to "hack" the melody in. You can grab the tablet, run the app and just start whenever you feel like it - on a laptop you have to power up the machine, run the DAW, load at least a project template... all takes more time.
To work in Live directly, the remote control I like most is LK from imaginando, especially the piano roll to draw/edit notes into Live's MIDI clips. It's not as sophisticated as TouchAble, but much easier to use.

PS: No Reason users out there?? Is it because of the workflow?

Guess I'm too early for feedback. Still on learning curve. I'll try follow up if it does well for the features I'm looking for, (all in one DAW hehe)

Interesting to know how you get it done there. Thanks for sharing.

This one time I used to hum on headphone mic or phone, and get it transfer into S1. Then i'll get Melodyne to translate it into midi. But post-editing is a bit tiring to do later on, everytime, repetitively. Kinda disrupting that fun writing moment a bit. I'm not a keyboardist and lacking in music theory, and so I've to take programming midi path. Been lurking here and there to find the right DAW for me, the one that I can fold piano roll like in Ableton, has midi editing features like in FL Studio, a built in chord progression tools like Cubase, scripting features like Reaper, minimal interface and simple workflow like Studio One, intelligent midi companion like Band In A Box, and perhaps that pattern clips features like in Ableton/Bitwig/Maschine would be great to have too. The journey has taken me to Waveform.:rofl:

Wouldn´t call these sequencers, but DAW´s in stead. Semantics, ok. Granted.

I Use sugarbyte´s Thesys, to sequence vsti´s inside the DAW i use, which is FLStudio.
