i've been testing helix native after a long time waiting, all that i can say is that have an awesome marshall emulation, well defined effects and the cabs... you don't need to tweak so much to achieve a good sound but the amps it's like any other software. So... this is may humble opinion, if you tested let me know what you think, is worth the 399 dollars?

imho: no. If you consider that Helix Native is more or less "for home only" all it's competitors are cheaper and most of them better. I already wrote that the FX is great but the amps still lack. The Thermionik amps are 9$ each with rebates kicking in for five. And they're all better than any amp in Helix Native. The GUI is nice (although it can be a little cumbersome with a mouse), it's a nice overall package, the sound is not bad but four hundred bucks...nope.

400 bucks is indeed steep. I think they're likely gonna get more buys from hardware Helix owners, maybe other Line 6 product owners, the ones who get various discounts. I don't really see anyone except guys burning their cash spend 400$ full price. or maybe Line 6 will offer a sale deal later on through some plugin store outlet.

the price of native is for this reason: line 6 says that native sounds the same as helix hardware.
native have the same dsp procesing that the hardware, so i think that if native sounds the same that the hardware i will not buy nothing hehehe

Looks cool. I was actually a fan of podfarm 2 (I've owned a pod xt pro, same algos, and a pod hd). So I'm interested in it. But the price tag is very steep indeed.

Native helix is the same dsp and same sound as the hardware helix. The Hardware costs here round about 1200 bucks. If they make native helix cheaper you can get a new notebook, an interface and a midi controller for a lot less than the hardware and build your d.i.y. helix :winker:.

I had the pod Hd 500 and comapred it to the helix as the helix was totaly new. It is a big step up from the pod hd. For studio use. For live playing save the money buy a used pod HD 500 and a nice guitar for your 1200 bucks. If you think about buying line 6 stuff.

So if you compare the Hardware price with the software its actually not that bad.
And the line 6 stuff sounds top of the notch allways. Every single pod version sounded great as it came out.

I will test native helix and comapre it to my kemper next weekend.

I have a Helix Rack and thankfully Line 6 offer a $99 purchase price. I'm disappointed that despite USB connectivity, they haven't gone down the Virus TI path and allowed outboard processing. I also wonder how my Mission Engineering pedal will interact with a plug in.

I don't know if the people at Sound On Sound would agree it sounds terrible. This is their summary of the Helix.

    Pros
    • Highly responsive, realistic playing feel.
    • Sounds great, and is easily and supremely tweakable via a superb user interface.
    • Lots of cabs, mics and effects to play with.
    • Very flexible signal path routing.
    • Accepts third-party cabinet impulse IRs
    • Extensive MIDI control capability.
    • I could go on and on with this list!
    Cons

    • None.

The plugin must be nothing like the hardware if you are correct.

I do believe what you are plugging into makes a gigantic impact on the tone and response of this emulators.
That's such a huge factor in my ears.

Its not just about the software.

Your Pre amp and DI. Of course guitars/pickups/fingers but that's a given

What might sound good on one system sounds like crap on another.
Just something to keep in mind when you ask "what do you think how Helix sounds"

I'm gonna wait to try this until the special version comes out.

it's the fully featured demo from line 6 helix native, you have to create an account in line6.com and download the software, it's only 20 mb that's rare

It was released in the last 24 hours. Do you think it's cracked already?

    The long awaited Helix Native.
(I use Shell Helix motor oil, but is this relevant...?)
Well, I downloaded the darn thing from the Line6 website, wished them "all the best" because it doesn't work in WinXP (my M-Audio hardware drivers sound terrible în Win7), and hope to test it on Win7 in my dual-boot system.
As a Pod hd500x user (and Boss Gt too) I can tell the Line6 sound quality is based not only on the software quality, but also the hardware quality. Whereas other brands have 44.1khz converters, line6 has 48khz ones, and it makes quite a difference. The emulation of a Marshall, a Mesa, a Bogner, etc, in Helix Native cannot be totally different than, say, the ones in Guitar Rig, Amplitube, etc. So the big difference is the hardware. And, because it's just a plugin, it cannot provide a constant quality across all platforms and sound card brands. Being a 23MB plugin, as opposed to the 700MB of a Guitar Rig, it makes you think. Anyway, the 400 bucks price tag is mostly for owning a Line6 Helix product, not necessarily for buying a super plugin. But it has a guitar processor manufacturer's "technology" embedded. So... let's hope it's reasonably good. More feedback after testing it.

They arent impulses as you can move and even change the mic in the cabs you cant do that with IR,s
Go for REAL IR instead like Ownhammer etc and it will sound way better
Also build sound from scratch dont go thrue the factory presets and i say put a LP/HP block directly after the IR block (dont use the built in filters in the IR block) and set it to 80-8000 and then adjust to taste
