That brings up an important question: Who is supposed to be a newbie? The ones that just start making music, or the ones that just registered an account on these beloved forums? For the latter I consider myself a newbie. But even for the former consider people that are new to music, but old wise gurus when it comes to installing software and patches and hacks and so forth. What are they? Damn, I'm definitely confused now!

Oh, and even newbies in 2017 should know that searching for an answer first is the number one request on forums.

You really need the clarification? Ok: First paragraph was irony!

In the context of this thread "newbies" refer to members who recently registered an account and therefore are not all that familiar with the rules.

It's not a matter of looking down. It's just that when someone needs help, we wanna help them. But what we don't wanna do is answer the same questions over and over again with the same answers. Think of it like this - you show up to work with a cat scratch on your face, and someone asks you what happened to your face. You tell them you got scratched by your cat. But your job is a cashier, and everyone asks you what happened to your face. It is the final hour of your shift, the 113th person asks what happened to your face. You just said "cat scratch" 112 times today going on 113. Say "cat scratch" 113 times fast... pretty annoying way to pass the time, I'd say. Reason I chose that story is because it happened to me in real life. Unfortunately, it took me all I had not to be a smart ass and tell one of them "I was driving thru the night and accidentally drove into a wormhole and it took me to the Jurassic period. I was soon driving thru a coniferous forest but along came a velociraptor who decided to shit on my car. So I got out of the car & asked him what bills he pay to be shitting on my car, and then he fought me, got me pinned down but I broke free, hopped back in my car and drove into the wormhole back to the 21st century and lived to tell the tale with this facial battle scar." But if I did my boss would have most likely heard about it and I would have easily lost my job.
Same goes here - If I did that with the newbies here, I'd feel bad because for all I know, that member could end up being someone I really like. But I won't know if I give them that kind of first impression. No one cares about how much you know until they know how much you care. And if you give them that impression that you don't care, they don't want your expertise. But we are not looking down, we just don't want you to sit and wonder why no one is replying to your thread asking a question that has been asked and solved 15 times over already. We're not trying to blow you off or look down on you, it's just that we don't like repeating ourselves and expect that you look for the answer first before asking. We're human beings with lives and jobs to go to, and music to make, bills to be paid, beds to sleep in, and mouths to be fed. We don't always have the time to answer the same questions over and over again.

That is exactly my point. Look for the answers in the forum before starting a new thread.

Simplest way to correct is to tell them that there is already a thread here regarding that question and ask that they search for it.
Or would that be deemed rude?

Technically speaking, that would be the way to correct it. I don't think it could be considered rude since there should be no excuse for laziness.

Well I guess some people find the term noobz offensive then? Damn, with that line of thinking the extremely popular "for dummies" series of books must really piss some people off then. Someone should file a class action lawsuit, lol. I've always wondered why they're so popular. I've personally never read any of them, not because I find them offensive. But because I dont feel a "for dummies" book applies to me.

Everyone knows that if you call someone a "noob" then Satan will rise from the hades and anally (and orally) impregnate everyone including the men and we will all be giving birth to antichrist babies that will destroy the world and completely eradicate the human race in a matter of nanoseconds. Bro I don't think anyone understands how extremely offensive the term "noobz" is. I carry a glock on me everywhere I go in case someone calls me a "newbie" or a "noob". This is truly the most offensive thing you could ever say to someone. It is an absolute war crime and a violent crime against humanity. It is the most violent war crime ever committed... on Canadian soil. :hahaha:

Can only speak for my own experience which in general has been a real cool community & loads of real helpful people on point to give advice and help when asked for :)
Agree that some questions are maybe often repeated & some people don't search first but can't definitively state what is what & what should be and all that.
Long as people get the help they searching for and have fun is all that matters i guess

I don't really understand, what the thread intents. Just starting a thread?
No newbie will read it. So the effect will be zero.
In almost every forum I ever visited, the first thing a newbie reads is: "SEARCH THE FORUM". No change. Question askers remain question askers. :)
So, why does OP think a thread like this is useful?

The only thing I can imagine, that would really help is, that admins automate/enforce the rule by forum software. It would be easy to add a button "yes, I searched the forum" or even a captcha (pull the words "yes, I searched the forum" togehter). For the first 5 thread starting posts or so.

A little more effort would be a downvote button for people, who repatedly ask questions that are already answered a thousand times.
And a temporary posting ban for a day or two when it gets too much (for instance two threads with mor than 10 downvotes)

    • This forum is just a piece of software, so why don't we let the computer do the work.
    • Saves time for admins
    • Doesn't lead to people thinking to be offended
    • No need for wiseacres
    • AND this way, there is no need for the forum's senior citizens to be rude

Reading you first post in this thread, yes you most certainly are. Your language, tone and choice of words are quite clear. "Stop bitching". "Newbie"

Yep, nothing but ad hominem, as predicted. SubGenre rarely stays on topic. Your ad hominem attack and your following of rude people liking off topic ad hominem attacks is what is wrong here, not me critizing the topic. No elitism here? Yea, right. How about adressing the topic instead of being childish.

If you're in this mothaf.. for two decades it's a real challenge to not fall into elitist behaviour sometimes..
We all (need to) change our points of view at times.
Subgenre is just an old F... like I am and we eventually get a bit bored with some Noobspeak Faraoki :bleh:

Yup, but your small litte gang must stop applauding and masturbating to personal attacks. I think you might have misunderstood the name of the forum? Wolves practicing in asslicking is not that sexual, and the sound it is making rather border on the disgusting, don't you think?

Fine with me. That is close to the way the moderators do it. But to have some members here take upon theirselves calling new members "bitching newbies" and senior members applauding it might not be a smart way to educate people how to address the situation.
