All cloud synths (except D50) are consuming a lot of CPU just by loading them. Not to mention playing some keys. I'm on a Intel I7 4790K but did not expect this behaviour. Fairly disappointing Roland! Besides that in some vst3 versions AT and PB do not work. Hope they neutralize the bugs optimize the code soon because these synths sound incredible good.

Definitely CPU hogs, I usually print them pretty quick in Reaper.
They sound great, but judging by some of the other design "quirks" I doubt they are very highly optimized.

I find the GUIs a bit small too, but they look blurry at any size above 100%.

  4. I really wanted to hear how they sound but after installing them following the instructions to the letter, there are no instruments showing up in the Concert wrapper.

    d-50 are sepe
D-50 and other are separate instruments. The concert is for the rvr files.
All are working in Reaper x64. I renamed the Dll's XXXX-x64.dll in the vst directory though.
Also use the place lib here.exe in the concert distro.

it is very normal to be cpu heavy, because its modelling , See it as games, newer games need more powerful pc's. , the same counts for quality audio technology . I remember I needed to buy a new pc to use Omnisphere , later came Diva etc.

one tip, put the voice count to 2 or 4 this helps a lot

  7. Ah, I put the rvr files into my concert file but I guess the dll files I must have misfiled. I'll backtrack and sort it out. And yes, I'm all good with place lib here .exe. I didn't realize there were .dlls involved.
Thanks for clearing it all up!

You're talking about the Concerto rompler. There's also an actual D-50 synth which is probably better than the samples. Unlike the other Roland stuff the D-50 also takes next to no CPU.

  9. Ah, Señor DonCaballero, that is the one that shall finally set me free. I didn't understand that there were two separate incarnations under the same moniker. That should get me where I need to be with the D-50, you have calmed the savage beast, confusion, that was raging in my head. Now if we could only work out the intricacies surrounding the Concerto debacle...I shall not want, I shall be free!

did you get the new 3.20 version of concerto?
did you create a diectory somewhere for the rvr files and use the exe and ran it from this dir?

The one has nothing to do with the other. Modeling such an old piece of hardware is only cpu heavy when developers mess something up. All modern VST synths (Icarus etc.) are more complex and demand more cpu load. You seem to think of modeling as some kind of digtally re-creating the hardware (virtual transistors and capacitors and so on). That's not how it is done. The very accurate modeling of the Virus will be released soon as Viper. I wasn't able yet to pass 8% of cpu load. I also have an accurate modeling of the JX8P, and it never even reaches 5% (I'm on a Notebook with a 2nd !! generation i5 @ 3GHz)

@statik That cat is so creepy! It scared the shit out of me while I was writing this post!

I have to agree that high CPU load indicates sloppy and poorly designed code by the Roland engineers.

Engineers who they now source cheaply from India and China to knock up these pitiful emulations of gear they quite obviously have little respect for.

Long gone are the golden days of Roland forever. Gone is their pride for supreme craftsmanship.

The gui is just a mess, it is so tiny and when you zoom in anything look clutterd with graphic artefacts.
Heck it doesnt even save the zoom setting.
Besides that , why do they still use circular knobs.
    Great sound tho

I bet your girl left you for some Roland's technician. Get over it and stop rehashing constantly that old story ; you hurt yourself at the same time you break our balls.

I think it is not that same old modeling @tulamide

At first I thought there were some kind of Wavetables involved to recreate the different behaviors of each component part. After a bit of research, I now think it's really mainly DSP stuff what's making their ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology so CPU intense. The people at Roland think they have reached the next level in Electronic Music with that technology. Here you can watch them explain it a little bit:

I think the cloudsynths sound really cool, too and I only found Jupiter 8 and System 8 were a bit too intense on the CPU for my taste. The other's I find tolerable.

I was just watching teardown vids of all the boutique synths. Although small, they are well engineered and built devices, whoever designed and assymbled them... Except for the lack of propper cc on the some of them, they look cool and sound great

    oops, wrong Roland thread, derp.....

Those who having problems with the CPU, try to use the VST3 version .... Except Ableton users:excl:... Ableton (in 2017) still doesn't support VST3:rofl:

there he is again ..... he once played a Roland synth probably in a shop and now he is an expert ..... two words for you and I told you in another post too. "FUCK OFF". your opinion is as much valid as the opinion of my 14 years old son who does probably already know more about synths than you

    figment of my imagination

Well said @nobodyspecial ! anyone that knows anything about Roland knows the engineer that built the original 909 is still there working on all of the new gear. Not very much has changed in design and engineering personnel except some new hires from within Japans own system at Roland in Hamamatsu. They've worked hard to build a technology that can recreate analog sound in a way that delivers today's needs. The only criticism I can give Roland is the fact they seem to live in the past and I'd like to see them create some new synths that are future classics. The Cloud Stuff I like it does sound great, just takes a lot more space than I had hoped. The Jupiter 8 my computer is a senior citizen lol it can't handle it unfortunately !

PS - there is an update for the Boutiques for midi send / also the jp08 and ju06 will control surface the Cloud Synths Respectively via midi.
