That is literally it! Do you do it via the kontakt interface itself or is there some other program. Also, once compressed can they be uncompressed?

And lastly, If I took all my libraries as NCW, could I then transport them to another computer and import them as per normal? Even over to a Mac?

Here we go

-NCW-Conversion are made in Kontakt itself!
-Dont know if they /NCW files) can be uncompressed!
-Yes, you can transfer NCW libraries to another computer and they´ll work!
-MAC-issiue i dont know about but my guess is that you can play this format on a Mac too!

When i batch resave, the library file size does not change. :dunno:

yeah, me too... what gives... someone must have an answer... as this would save me about 150 gigs in HD space.

There is an option when resaving to combine samples and instrument files into the NCW. If that is not checked it will just save it the regular way (as I recall...)

Collect samples\batch compress?

It asks if i want to discard the multis, ,Im assuming once u compress the library, you lose your multies?

I can just imagine how long this will take to compress almost 300 gigs worth of libraries...

Bit scary !! :wow:

Batch resave and Batch compress is two different things!

Batch resave: That´s what you use when patches can´t find their way to the samples!

Batch convert: That´s what you use when you want to shrink the samples (ca. 50%) into NCW-format!

I´ve used this feature a lot since Kontakt was able to convert into NCW, and Im really supprised how well it works and how fast the conversion is - You can shrink/convert 4 gb in about 10 - 15 min!

Cheers

Batch resave will also make patches load faster, without compressing the samples. *yes*

Thanks for the tip BUT i noticed when there are many folders/subfolder structure in the lib:s Kontakt mirror function seem to MISS some files even when i do a patch-resave first.( Ia lways do that) that way kontakt should not miss any samples "when they are wav or aiff.
But then when i use the Collect samples/batch Compress funktion it still miss a few samples.
And when move those files out of the folderstructure and choose the other option "collect and crate new destination" it wont work either.
I got the mess saying nothing to compress or something similar.
And if i try the mirror option once again again it dont recognize those samples.
So it seems that it is something with just THOSE samples that dont wants to be compressed.
Very strange!!
So people who wanna try this beware so you dont loose any samples..

I recently tried to compress Sonivox Symphonic Orchstra 12000+ files and Kontakt missed to compress over 1000 of those i did another try today and it compressed some new files but not all of them.

I wonder if it best to compress one folder of files instead of a whole library? will try that next time i gonna compress a big library (gonna try one of those imperefect piano lib:s)

Hmm after some work with many many lib:s i tried to see what would happend if i didn´t include the missing files that Kontakt didnt compress.

Guess what?
It didnt even ask for any of those files so to me it seems that Kontakt v.5 may not need so many files like kontakt 2,3&4 did (most of my lib:s are kontakt 2 a good bunch is kontakt 3 and a few is kontakt 4.

Anyhow i did NOT delete those files and it was only in ONE lib i tested it gonna try it in some more lib:s later to see if it still dont want those missing files.

So now i have compressed atleast + 20 Lib:s some of them are CDXtract Lib:s converted to Kontakt Lib:s from "Wav" lib:s or Giga lib:s.
And on most of those Kontakt "miss" many many files i have a Lib called Latin Brazilian it has a good 16000 files and is only c:a 800 mb "big"
Kontakt on ly needed 12000 of those.
I kept the "missing" files anyway just in case.

But as soon as i finished to compress all my Lib:s i gonna move those missing files and do a Batch resave and if it works i gonna delete all those wav/aiff files and save even more space on my Kontakt Lib HD

You need to choose 'Collect samples/Batch compress'.

Files > Collect samples/Batch compress

Popup 'Erase Multi (i.e. discard all instruments)?' Click OK

Define Source Folder and Destination Folder (Destination can't be a subpath to Source folder)

Choose Folder Creation Strategy

Choose Destination Sample Format (e.g. Lossless compressed NCW)

Click Convert

Conversion starts, logfile will be written to Destination folder. For the fun of it I just tried and it brought down the size of a 99 MB folder (with nki&wavs) to 23MB (nki&ncw). Serious savings.

[Edit] LOL should have read the rest of the thread first. Anyway. Conversion is pretty fast.

[Edit 2] Fast is relative of course. More stats:

647 MB > 209 MB

roughly 38 mins, Core i3 3.06 GHz, Kontakt 5.1

Well i just realized that i have made the stupiest mistake!!!

I should have compressed every library with Kontakt 4.1.1. Air version (i did it with R2R 5.10 version)

Now i cant open any lib with my old Kontakt versions and since i also deleted the nki/nkm files i cant go back ( i believe you can uncompress ncw files?)

Anyway now i am stuck with kontakt 5.10 except for the london solo string lib which is encrypted on any version except 4.1.1 Air!!!

(roughly 38 mins, Core i3 3.06 GHz, Kontakt 5.1 )

What???
My machine is an Core2Duo 6600 and only 3GB memory and it only takes 3-5 min to compress 600 mb

I do not understand the existence of twoFolder Creation Strategy: isn't it better the second option, Collect Samples and create new destination folder structure??

big trouble: I batch compressed the library Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass, but when I finished the compression, I tried to add the new compressed library and it says "No library found". I added the nkr, nkc and nicnt files to the new compressed library, but nothing. what do I have to do? after done the compression

EDIT: I batch compressed my Maverick library. result: it loads slowly than the previous uncompressed. I'm so confuse. this fuckin library is much more bigger than the uncompressed previous library. I made the library bigger. with the compression. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You don't need to batch compress. .nkx &.ncs as they already compressed and are just extra secure monolith files that are compressed already & must be added through the library tab like kontakt player libraries. Most modern NI libraries already encoded in this format.

When u use Batch Compress it is normally to convert WAV to NCW.

NCW developed specifically for Kontakt and allows loading more samples into RAM. Therefor it really usefull for older libraries in say WAV format however libraries such as Maverick Library already compressed and do not require Batch compression.

In fact as u have found out it will just cause problems as you trying to convert an encrypted compressed file.

Therefore simply Batch-Resave which links location of your NKI's etc to speed up loading times.

However if u move those libraries links will be lost and u need to re-link.

Batch-resave & collect sample Batch compress two different things totally
Therefore simply Batch-Resave which links location of your NKI's etc to speed up loading times.
so I just have to move the library to the path I want, then add to Kontakt, and then do a batch resave in the location where that library is?
