A lot of new posters in this thread.

Plenty of things addressed to me in here I'd like to respond to, but not wishing to be "diversionary", I'll forget it.

I get it now. The secret to great sound is to spend thousands of $$$ on plugins which do (almost) NOTHING!

Well... I hate to repeat myself but the simple answer is, your "nothing" is "something" for someone else. It should be obvious, what you dismiss counting it for "nothing", someone else (including yours truly) claims is something, and something important.
I will repeat that music in the "high gear" (professional level) is an art of extreme detail. Therefore, perception of even the slightest nuance is everything in the mixing biz (and much more in the mastering biz). Professionals or even serious enthusiasts will sacrifice countless hours and money and will try myriads of different effect chains in order to find the best -according to their ears- combinations.
I could continue for ages but i don't have MMJ's epic stamina hehehe. I will just say that i have heard too many guys (mostly youngsters) saying Waves is shite, half the plugs do nothing etc etc. I will answer that, professional tools in the hands of noobs is like giving a Ferrari to someone who just got his driver's license. Experience, common sense and proven history implies that only a handful from hundreds of noobs will have the intelligence, patience and ears to learn how to correctly use and not abuse those serious tools, be it Waves or Nebula or FabFilter etc etc. Waves alone is responsible for the word audio plugin as they made the very first one (Q10 circa 1992) so people should think twice before saying anything about these guys, they are pioneers in their game.
So if you don't get it, it doesn't mean it's not important. Keeping an open mind is "one more stone on the building" that makes musicians artists.
    Be well :)

Great. I'll do my best to keep up. Have only little knowledge of scales and chords. I'm lazy and have been relying on my ears only to find and play chords. Same for the mixing part by the way. I also rely heavily on tutorials and on what knowledge people are willing to share.
So, again thanks for doing this.

+100 for the music theory side,

but for the stacking plugins, I would love for others to chime in on this subject.

Yes tiny adjustments are key, but by looking at the type of plugins u are stacking
it is like u try to make something out of it, it is not in the first place.

Ac/dc flight cases on the photo's, the type of video's you've posted.
You are drooling in the past, aren't you?

This is not a personal attack, I even sort of admire guys like you.
But how does this reflect on 2017 pop culture music? That could/should be up for debate.

Don't get me wrong either, almost every plugin I use is an emulation of some sort.
except for surgical eq and true peak limiting.

And again I really appreciate you taking all this time, especially on the music theory.
I encourage all musicians to take their time and study it. (that Jacob Collier interview is truly amazing.)

The secret is inside all of us. What matter most are: being patient in crafting and believing in your way and and more important than them is not being overwhelmed by other artists' works.

how could you be overwhelmed by anothers work, if you understand the language of music and exactly which process they followed to make it? (to the point being able to reverse engineer each step)

"The secret is inside all of us."

when i say" the secrets of music," i mean how it actually works that most of us haven't learned yet

i dont mean something do do with what is "inside you"

    "being patient in crafting"

what do you mean by this? do you mean having it be mysterious to you how to craft?

"and believing in your way "

what do you mean by this? do you mean your way as in the choices you make in the context of how music actually works? or do you mean not having the knowledge of how the language of music works, and just "making it up" ( imagine going to talk to someone in your native language, but you invent your own new words then starting talking to them with sentences constructed of words you just invented.)

"than them is not being overwhelmed by other artists' works."

i dont know what you mean here, do you mean a type of frustration due to not knowing how they were able to make the music?

anyone have questions about music theory? do you have questions related to your keys? how to travel them? how to pick chord progressions? substitutions? questions about memorizing the notes in keys? how to build the chords fo each key? how to connect multiple key changes in a song and have all the chords from each to be able to use? questions about how to build multiple melodies and harmony?

Everyone would develop similar techniques by practicing. Music theory is the most stupid theory in the whole world propounded by people trying to formulate anything. For an electronic producer there's no strict rule.
