    Just listen to them?
And honestly, dont pigeon hole yourself into a specific subgenre. Try using elements of all of them in your productions. Ill put a hardcore drop in a future bass track. Or a breakbeat in a house track...... Fuk the rules! Hybrid is the way to success in EDM. Something new and different than all the other cookie cutter clone wanna be's. I could easily throw a bass house drop in a future bass track (they already do) or vice versa.

house is 4 on the floor. Future bass is breaks. but you already knew that?

A hybrid trap track with a lot of future bass elements (all 7th chords) and a hardcore drop that I made (1st half of the 2nd drop)
The breakbeat from Erik B and Rakim-I aint no joke in the predrop/prelude, and some Pantera vox I ripped from YT in the 2nd buildup...a hawk screech and a zebra mating call are all in there too (in the 1st drop).
If they have a rave at a zoo and play this there might be problems...lol

These genres are just passing trends in the big sea of seasonal trends. They are made by people that know everything that was made before in house music and often times hip-hop/trap/general urban music - and these people are pushing the sound forward.

But you as an outsider, by the time you learn how to do them, they'll be long gone. If you learn how to make house music and especially sound design, you'll be able to identify the next hot trend just in time.

    Just FYI:
    • Future House is structurally melodic house music with a specific set of sounds
    • Bass House is structurally melodic house music with a specific set of sounds obvioulsy different of the first one
    • Future Bass: generally slow tempo with fast buildups - depending on the season it's a blend of trap with Disclosure-style chords, or trap +bigroom or whatever they may invent for this summer

But I reiterate, if you want to board this train already on the move you'll get your skull crushed. By all means search future house tutorials, make some tracks, don't expect to go anywhere with them and most important, learn how to spot the new trends.

    • Future House is mainly characterized by its hollow bass as the main part of the Drop, the beat is influenced by deep house and Garage.
    • Bass House like its name is characterized by its Dubstep Bass in a Deep House Tempo with elemts of Deep House and Garage.
    • Future Bass: Very melodically and Harmonically based, with Elements of Trap, R&B, and hip hop.
With that said, those are already very established, so with this knowledge go and break the rules.

  9. Putting words to the intricacies and subtleties of these micro shifts tonality in what otherwise is the same genre just serves to complicate what for me is just...music made with soft synths, drum machines and samplers. I am sooooo glad that I no longer have the time, energy or inclination to chase the next big thing, but rather just be.

    Hahah.
Future Bass is usually mid tempo, filtered saw chords, wacky drums. Flume pioneered this sub genre.
Bass House is 4 on the floor, aggressive basses, sorta like if deep house got angry. Some big future house artists are habstrakt, matroda, malaa, etc. Not sure who pioneered it though.
Idk wtf future house is though.
You're probably htinking, wtf is the point of all these subgenres in the first place. Well, they all actually do sound pretty distinct from each other. One of the reasons I love electronica so much. There's so much different shit there.

  11. To me it's like white people, they all look alike to me:dunno:

We used to write songs and name them. Now we write songs and call them new styles.

As long as the brain works as it's supposed to I'm pretty sure everybody can distinguish these three genres once they listen two or three tracks of each.

Whatever happedned to some straight up house/garage/speed house/garage/hardhouse...
All these new labelings and supposed amalgamation of generes to me is just another way of over -commercializing something that truly was great at one time /to silly proportions..
Some of you Old skoolers must know what im reffering to..

    This "bass" That "bass"
    "future" this n"future" that
    "Leap year" Bass
    C,mon......

Its not that i dislike the genre overall...i spent years programming hardhouse.....
Just this particular "almost" kinda commercial branding of the sub genres i just cant really get on board with .
It s almost to my ears more so to warrant selling and sub franchising new exiting life changing librarys than the musical content..
Sounds harsh i know....Maybe im gettn old or somethn coz im defo stuck in my ways ill admit..

If im gonna program somethn 4/4 wth an overall housesque tone..
Why not call a spade a spade
    Regardless of the influences involved...
Its not as though those sub genres have changed the game were all playing that much is it...

I don't like to be pigeonholed. Especially on a first date >__> <__<

Well, I learned today that Aphex Twin makes "ambient" music, so it's good to learn smthn; especially smthn that nobody has ever thought before!

  21. I am all for people making more new genres, but what I hate is that the names are often so non-descriptive, because they use too many concepts/words from other similarly-named genres. IMO it's a product of, and leads to, insular scenes.
