After I stopped using my MPC I switched to Reason back in the day. I was a Reason/Pro Tools person. I no longer use either one of them on a daily basis. Reason always sending me that $129 upgrade notice but I don't think I could ever go back to that Reason workflow. I'm too spoiled with Ableton.

im not using reason. just thought it that stuff cool. you know you dont have to hate something to like something else. ;)
i mean im not super knowledgeable about modular but they did say they can output proper cv
but still who else has soft cv on their modules. wich in turn can speak with this interpreter in a correct way?
or did i get that wrong?
anywhoo sounds strange to fault a dev for midi, to me anyway :dunno:

I occasionally use Reason 9 now because I like some of the sounds from some of my old refills, like SonicFlavours Mystic Dream Pads or some of the rack extensions I purchased. Unfortunately, I am often hesitant to open it because the outdatedness of the GUI kinda scares me. Lol.

Don't get me wrong mate , was nothing towards you, the point was they show off CV output with an usb midi device. on your question: Most modular users (incl me) always have at least one device that translate CV to Midi and Midi to CV , also there is a lot of software around that can be used in any daw . by example https://ask.audio/articles/this-audio-plugin-syncs-your-analog-modular-synthesizers-to-your-daw.

So its really not a selling point for Reason

    fair enough.
it came of maybe more harsh then intended, sorry.
like i said what i found interesting as a modular noob. was all the inclusion of modules for it. especialy the third party stuff.
like they use reason to test or build "pre" versions of their real modular. seems fresh to me ;)

I still use Reason to this day because of this modular type of connectivity with Bidule and/or ReWire and/or Maschine.
Makes so much more sense if you have connectable hardware but even if you don't, conversion is possible (CV Data-Audio, Audio-CV Data and even pseudo side-chaining with the CV Gate) and works in and out across different platforms. Live<>Reason<>Reaktor. Slightly different ways to do functionally similar things. Because sometimes I like to just pour all my Lego out into one pile before I build.

I hear the reason we haven't gotten a Serum Rack Extension is the redesign that would need to happen to the Serum FX/MOD section. Propellerheads are unifying all their RE GUIs and any parameters on the backside of Serum would need to be moved to the front panel and all routing options would be on back. I doubt Duda would want to revamp the whole GUI just to make Serum available in that one particular host.

If you have a DC-Coupled interface or any Expert Sleepers ES or ESX modules you can use CV Toolkit, more software, yeah, but Ableton Link capable so there's that.
Veering off topic here but those new Kodiak Blocks look awesome. Especially the Morph Filter and that Curve Sequencer ripped right out of Massive. [IMG]

I have always liked Reason, but found the piano roll editor to be the most painful of any DAW i've tried. I continue to hope they work on that.

If Reason were to open up to vst and Au, then it would get more attention. I think that propriety ego is hurting them. I shouldn't have rewire into ANOTHER daw to use VSTs after all this is 2017.

Its a way cool daw on it's on. I don't think it should allow vsts ( i love them, dont get me wrong, and i started on reason 2.5 back in the day, but i also spoiled by live this days ) today Reason have it´s own rack extensions, and as i can see, there´s ABL3 there too, who knows what else...

i can´t remember the password to erase the profile, but still got my "myspace" page back in the day, pure Reason 3 weirdness.

Don't you think after 16+ years they would have switched protocols if it was hurting them? Just saying ...

reason was a nice daw back in the days, but now, lacking vst and trying to establish their own format, they have a somehow shadow life.

i loved the way how awsome their inbuild synths sounded back in reason 3, so cpu saving, but nowadays, this isnt important anymore.
so well i saw nothing new innovated in the video.

Yes, it does, but If you have invested in some quite expensive VSTs, Reason is a dead end. Although you can use it as a sidekick.
I used Reason from v1 to v5 and loved it and updated to 9 out of nostalgia.
It was a bad decision to stay closed for standard technologies for too long.
So I most likely won't install it on my next machine.

The modular nature of reason, and the wonderful gui is always attractive to me.
I don't use it often anymore, as I do not have it installed on my latest laptop, but I used to rewire into ableton all the time.
I don't think it needs VST support, as there is enough going on in there natively, and then with re-Racks it seems to be a very capable system.
I do wonder though, how hard it would be to create a 'vst rack' that was able to connect to 3rd party VST's in a plugin folders. If it were possible to do that without upsetting the stability of Reason I guess it would be cool. However, this may have the potential to compete with the racks developes. Allthough, this would open the programme up to be used by many people who do not really want to buy a rack version of a vst, that they already own...

The biggest selling rack extension of all time I predict would be a VST host. Too bad the Swede's hate the Germans. There probably already is one but it is not allowed by Poopellerheads.
