Delicately balance your Umphs with your Tssts. Add some Yeahs and your good to go.

 

Personally, I prefer unce over umphs. Tssts are great. I'm not a big fan of Yeahs. I think wowowowowowows are a bit more popular. And I would throw in a couple of wubwubs just to play it safe.

Also try looking out for/ dance music production / by snowman his vids are very good and cover alot of ground on musice.

 

What kind of dance music you want to make? Give us some examples track, EDM is a stupid term and everybody who uses it deserves to pee while sitting for the rest of his life

EDM, as any music genre including rock is formulaic. So you need to reverse engineer several tracks, to see the structure first, then type of instruments then make few tracks on the same structure as some successful existing ones then make some more. The problem is, if you are not able to do the above you will always lag behind in the music making race and ultimately you will always sound "expired". Today you learn how to make "drill snare" but in two months no one will use the drill snare, they will use LFOed chords. If you wait until a tutorial on LFOed chords gets out, they are long gone and something else is hot.

With the risk of sounding like a broken record, watch the tutorial to learn new things but learn what changes in EDM from a season to another (be it lead sounds, this season is only white noise FX, the next is just pitch risers, be it specific percussion or a specific kick, be it BPM, world influences like moombahton, samba whatever) - actually these were all stages of "EDM" that happened quite fast and you need to give that modern sound to your tracks, and this can only be achieved by knowing what was hot (not to go back there), what is hot, if possible what is going to be hot and stay within 80% old (what is already the latest EDM iteration) and bring 20% new.


This tutorial is as good as any but ultimately you have to learn how to think your approach on making music more than how to act specifically by following a tutorial. In nowday's music you have to figure out fast the trend of season, make the product fast and push it on the market.

And if someone thinks that I only speak from a commercial point of view, remember that the core definition of electronic music is "change" .

the tracks there may not be what you're looking for but the methods explained can help when you start deconstructing the guys you wanna sound like.

Hi, this video can be useful:

 

More like 100s of videos.
1000s of hours or trial and error.
Years of sounding like shit.
More years of sounding just okay.
And even more years until your ears are trained properly.
Lets not forget about cash for decent gear to work on.
And most importantly you gotta have some talent/musical ability

There is no bible or shortcut. Just tools and stepping stones. And a lot of mistakes a long the way. Oh, and also all the good hearted experienced members of this wonderful forum!

You got to put in the time and the work. If you want to try to make a living at it you have to treat it like a job. Like your life.

 

Just make music and be original.

Hi. You can find some good "start to finish" tutorials online. For ableton i saw a tutorial with Diskord from Sonic Academy that was really great and you can find it here. Also in cymatics pack "Helix" there was a nice tutorial i think. I recommend you to check sonic academy and secondly ADSR music production. Try to find something at the genre you like and at the daw that you use. Again this ableton tutorial from diskord was great but maybe not for beginners. Sonic academy has a ton of tutorials also using logic.You can find also something good for sure for other DAWs. They had a nice start to finish tutorial with seamlesR for FL studio back in 2014 i guess and he was explaining everything really good.

It is important to find a tutorial that will show you some key techniques for the genre you want to make, but also will give you some new knowledge for your daw.

 

The diskord one is good for learning the genre but his eqing and comp/limiting methods are "different" So much boosting everywhere especially the highs, doesnt cut out any mud either. Hes creating more problems for the mixdown. He says himself many times in the tute "I dont know why I do this and a lot of you will say its wrong but it works for me and we think it sounds good." LoL, his disclaimer.

The Helix one is good too. I effing love Tascione's music, but if you're familiar with it you can tell he really dumbed down his style for this tutorial. He does show some good technique in this one though. The only thing I found confusing (for a noob) is when he eqs he doesnt explain why hes cutting this freq. He just says what hes doing but not why. You can tell hes rushing and trying to keep it in the allotted time. But you will learn some good EDM habbits from that one.

But thats the thing with most of the tutorials, none of them are a bible. You got to realize they're not gospel/law and take away from them whats good and dismiss the rest. Being able to discern the gems and nuggets from the fodder and filler is where experience comes into play.
