I would say the Scarlett is a step up as newer Focusrite stuff will be far superior to older Lexicon stuff. If your budget can stretch though, I'd go for a 2i2 rather than the solo as it will giveyou some more flexibility and take longer before you may need a future upgrade for the sake of an extra few more change now.

Here is a little demo of some cleaner tones using a plugin (bear in mind the mic is still on when playing, so the slight hiss you hear will be related to that rather than the plugin output):

No sound difference, just you get a pair of XLR combo sockets/preamps so you can record two inputs if you ever needed to, i.e. guitar and vocals or two guitarists or bass and guitar etc. If you are confident you will only ever need one input, the Solo will work fine, but I initially bought a solo even though I thought the same as you and quickly replaced with a 2i2 when I had one.

No issues with clipping. They have and LED ring around the gain knob that lights up green, amber and red to indicate your levels and whether it's clipping and they have a high impendence switch. If others have it clipping, it's probably cos they have it turned up too high or on the wrong Line/Inst selection and the ring is lighting up red and for some reason they think that's a good thing!

If it is 'a lot better' then your mind is all ready made up. You are not going to hear a significant difference in quality from your current interface to a Solo. Get the Zoom if that tone is what you are after. It is more convenient to have one device for all your guitar tones now.
I just saw the G3 is discontinued, so you are purchasing a used one? Try it, then sell it when you are ready to upgrade to a decent tube amp/57 setup.

How are you monitoring now? Do you have decent pickups and pots on your electric? A clean tone is very revealing.

You might want to look into upgrading PU and pots. Do you know how to solder?

yes, new pickups will make a difference but it is not the point, i say that vst are not close for clean tones and zoom is a little close to that clean sounds

it's not my guitar, i saw demos in al kind of guitars and theres no vox ac 30 top boost decent tone in a vst, no marshall clean decent tones, no good clean stuff at all, post a video of a decent fender clean

For clean tone you won't get noise. use the interface. If you wanted metal I would say throw them away and buy a real amp

jajaja i've searching good clean emulated tones in vst's but nothing convinces me, for metal is really easy to find a tone with vst's but clean is on the ground

You can find good clean tones in Peavey ReValverĀ® 4. Generally you should make your sound . using presets only isn't enough. additionally using non lump amps (transistor amps and Audio interfaces and ...) reduces the touch of playing.

    Check it out....

I'm seeing FOCUSRITE 2i2 for $109.99 on eBay (new), and a ZOOM MS50G used for like $60.

Step down to the MS50G single pedal, and get both! :-D
