I personally love the Yamaha HS series. They are very clear and transparent and I love that.

Equator Audio D5 or JBL LSR305.

I like the way Mackies sound as well. What is there budget line up to, like mk4 now?

I wouldn't hesitate to go with the LSR305. You can't beat 'em for the price. If I was going to use monitors to reamp at that $$, I would do it through those as well. Bass response is surprisingly very strong for how small they are!

    Don't spend money on KRK.

The 308s sound good, but I think that the 305s sound more accurate. Do some reading on this reading through gearslutz, you'll see what I mean.

Stretch your budget to a Focal Alpha 50s pair if you can. You'll thank me later

JBL LSR305s if you can't. DON'T buy the LSR308. The LSR are known to emit hiss while active. Some people don't mind but if you do, you'll regret a bigger expense. Also 305s have a nice amount of bass for a 5" driver.

Definitely grab the 308s. You can hear so much more going on in the bass and low mid range than the baby brother 305s. And $400 for the pair is literally a steal. I've had mine for a month and they sound more precise the more I use them. I'd love to hear some comparisons between the 308s and it's $2000 jbl counter part, the 708i. Since the cheaper 3 series is pretty much modeled after it.

Those have really good reviews. I am very tempted.

JBL 305/8s are great at such low prices.Their main problem is built quality. They may not last very long. As I am not a professional, I may get away with cheaper builts.
With proper setup, DAC, RME, cables and shelving filters I could make the best out of it.

I have a pair of HS80m, boy, they sound good. They have an 8 inch woofer, which may be enough if your room is treated.

In love with 308 right now. Like it. Lot of bass and power; enough for me. Here some comparison:

The LSR will usually last between 3-5 years, the warranty is 3 years. Would be surprised if you don't play with the thought to upgrade your monitoring after a couple of years regardless of which speakers you get. As mentioned above, the Focal Alpha series gets another vote from me.
