Back when I was using windows I used software that sandboxed your os and when you restarted the os it got rid of all the software you installed (I forgot the name of it) Just wondering if their is software like that for Mac? Cheers

you mean Sandboxie . no there is no application the same for Mac , because the chance you screw up your osx as much as you can do windows is rather small. But your best shot is. VMware running any os you want . and with a simple delete you can start again

Thanks for your response. No I wasn't referring to sandboxie, after a quick google search I found out shadow defender was the software I was using. It's a shame their is nothing like that for Mac.

There are also Parallels Desktop, Crossover and Wineskin Winery which is free and works pretty good for running windows apps on mac

Thanks, but currently use a virtual machine for Windows things. What I wanted to do was try out various software, plugins and so on on MacOS without having to revert my Mac back with time machine all the time.

Ok. I'd just install windows via Bootcamp on a secnond drive or partition and run it natively.

When tying out macOS software nothing serious is changed, you can't likely screw up you system.
If you want to get 100% sure, just create a clone of the whole drive using SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner. That way you have anytime a bootable copy and a 'clean' system

Maybe you want to look for something like RunAsDate for Mac to run demo software forever. No idea if such a thing exists on Mac tho.
There were some clever terminal scripts a few years ago to run Waves plugins on PowerPC in endless demo mode for example which basically did the same thing.

Make a second partition. Install OS X of choice. Test install the wares you want for your primary partition on this secondary partition.
I test most new stuff on my laptop before I run it on my desktop. Keeps the desktop free from clutter and stuff that doesn't run well.
