Hey everyone

I've got a second hand stereo VCA type compressor (Symetrix 525) but the First channel's (Master) compressor section does not respond anymore, although the EXP/GATE does. Channel 2 works perfectly, i've been using it for mono Vocals and Snares.

What would be the steps to take to repair this? Is it possible or would it require replacing both channels to be able to use it in stereo?

Insight and links would be appreciated

Reference picture (I know it's a cheapo comp but would be fun repairing it.)

 

That's a cool sounding compressor! I'd take it to an electronics repairman and have it fixed. Propably just needs replacing a few components.

 

Thanks for the heads up, hopefully it's nothing i'd have to import like the VCA chip.

I Have the manual but the schematic will be a great help, thanks! Maybe my intro into electronics repairing, hopefully without frying myself There aren't many electricians in my area that know about audio gear sadly.

 

If you know a small second-hand Hifi/Video store, ask them to have a look at it. They often do repairs as well.
Do you understand the schematics Superliquid posted?
If you don't have any experience with electronics repairs then better let somebody else do it.

 

...or find someone who will show you how.

 

Agreed, i'd hate to destroy the channel that does work
