Where is Bitwig now?

    With version 2 now released, just wondering where they are with this?

    Is it buggy or resolved most issues? Where is it in terms of features and usability compared to Ableton, mainly, but also other DAWs?

    Just curious whether anyone is using this DAW "seriously" and "professionally" yet and whether it's worth a serious try yet?

    also people who works with plugins like amp sims etc how they find it ?
    how is the cpu usage comparing to S1 or Reaper ?
    i tried bitwig 1.3.15 and didnt like the plugin sound from desktop bias and didnt liked the cpu usage as well.
    i tried bitwig 2 at hackitosh side of my computer and seems to work a little better than windows version of bitwig 1.3.15 (prolly because audient has better drivers for mac)
    i have a audient ID4 usb interface

    About a couple of weeks ago a legit user was complaining about their new upgrade scheme+the upgrade price. Apparently they have moved to a subscription model, similar to Cakewalk. He was also saying they broke their promise about new feats while overcharging those who went along with 'em for an upgrade. Personally, i tried 1.3 something ,it seemed a bit interesting, sorta like a cross between Live and Cubase but i couldn't get to grips with it as it was so unstable with many plugs.
    Btw, irrelevant as it maybe,to anyone who's having trouble with cpu loads due to many fx plugs, i strongly suggest you should check Nyrv Agent. Even if you do not have a problem, this vst fx plugin-host that is a vst plug itself, has a very smart tech behind it that brings down cpu usage when the fx plugs are run through it. My mix projects in the studio are overrun with plugs, 100+ vst is only typical for me. When i saw my cpu going down from 60% to 30% just by running the plugs through it i freaked lol. I tried with Cubase,Sonar, Live and StudioOne. It exhibited about the same reducement in cpu load. Reached for the wife's cc (i still don't have one) and bought the thing. It still has some issues with a few plugs but 99% works fine. Plus it gives you control to a lot of parameters instantly on every plug effortlessly.

    I'm using bitwig 2 beta at the moment and it is honestly one of the best DAW's I've used to date. They have improved audio editing and audio engine. And their new modulators allow you to build any effect or instrument that you need. You can also use these modulators on anything even vsts. Need a dynamic eq? Make one! Need a multiband compressor? Just make one! It sounds great, is intuitive, versatile and their plugin delay compensation is top notch, this means when you press a key on your midi keyboard you will get an instant response, no lag, even when your latency is high (Something Ableton hasn't got right yet).

    Bitwig is focused on a linear workflow so for production its great. If you need to make a live set I would still use Ableton. However bitwig does have some live features but they are really just there to help with production and scamping ideas. They also have custom open source control scripts for midi hardware that anyone can write. So chances are they have support for all your midi needs. Bitwigs Midi mapping is great, they have an auto mapping system that allows you to automatically route your midi device with whatever fx/instrument you have selected, and of course you can set your own custom midi mapping.

    Crashing isnt much of an issue with bitwig, it will just reload the audio engine if it crashs and keep your project intact. It also has a feature to automatically turn off plugins that arnt in use to save on cpu and ram.

    The audio editing has been improved since they have included the much needed cross fades, very easy to use and edit audio. The audio engine is also improved, runs smooth as butter even with shit loads of vsts.

    Honestly there are so many reasons i love bitwig i could carry on for hours. I stopped using Ableton 4 years ago and I have no reason to ever go back..

    I was thinking the same as well. Need to get my hands on Bitwig 2 from the sister site and some free time more importantly. Will try to do a detailed objective review after that:guru:

    You like Bitwig, and that is OK, it is Your thing, and nobody should have any problems with that; but there is no need to dislike the posts of anyone that has a different opinion, don`t You think so ?

    i'm curious too, i just gave Bitwig a quick look some time ago and i agree it looked like another copycat of cubase or Logic.

    fact is, i welcome competition in the DAW arena, the more the better.
    as for their subscription model .. fuck off.

    If bitwig is a copycat of something then its Ableton, a lot of them even come from Ableton.
    literally everything is going to a subscription model, and there's a reason why.
    So many amazing Software just got abandoned because the cow got "outmilked" after the initial peak.
    You have to pay your employees and its kinda hard to lead a company without a somewhat stable money flow.
    i think this trend will go on even harder in the future and prices will go down slow but substantially.
    In the end this will lead to a more refined and better software.
    at least thats what i'm hoping for.

    nice graphic, nice sound, new designed fx and menu, but when you start a project, everything turned into the shit.

    No way. Never.
    I know why i left this bag of overhyped sh*t.
    There is something new ? I want ! i want !
    That's why bitwig is in front on KVR.

    But check ANY other website, and Bitwig is near last, even if you take crossplatform only.

    I remember a "professional" mastering eng telling me he never used a low cut in his work...it was the last time before i closed my KVR account.
    And the famous "sylenth vs anything (even pickles)" and more bullsh*t ("analog vs digital", "bread vs butter"....).

    Frankly, if you want a source, take ANYTHING but KVR :mates:

    dont tell me about FL studio.
    i got four FL project files from a friend of mine, the idea was to export them in MIDI to cubase and give it a quick remix, it turned out to be a mess and i lost a lot of time because FL cant even export MIDI properly and before exporting you're expected to run a Macro and FL will advise you to do so !!
    being curious i had a look at FL once again and sorry but while the GUI is very fast and snappy the way it's organized and the menus and the whole idea behind it is a total piece of shit, it's more a glorified tracker than a modern DAW in my opinion.
    Once you get used to it you can pretty much do everything but it's just awful, the mixer in particular makes no sense, i would rather go back to Cubase on Atari than being stuck with FL 12.

    subscriptions are a scam, plain and simple.
    all the major software application reach the point where there's barely anything new to add in their product so their user base has little or no reason to upgrade and waste money.
    to "fix" this model, which is perfectly natural as any software sooner or later will reach maturity, they give up and start selling subscription thus locking-in their users even more while adding almost nothing in terms of features and bugfixes.

    piracy is the only way to salvation.

    I'm really pissed of about their subscription-model, because it's just plain bullshit for the end-user.
    I am just a musician who happens to has a lot of backround in mixing, but my first intention is to make good music, fast and as intuitive in my DAW as possible. So I started using Ableton and eventually switched to Bitwig, because it was just more friendly to make music in my eyes - which happened to be correct.
    So when a musician makes music, he doesn't want to think about when his subscription runs out of time, or when something will not work anymore - this simply robs time & inspiration. A multi-million dollar high-end-gear super producer with his studio, doesn't care about his money and it happens that he is choosing Pro Tools, because he already bought super expensive HD- and UAD-cards.
    So the moment Bitwig chose to apply a subscription-model, every sane thinking musician, who only uses DAWs as their electronic composing tool and not as the high-end-spaceship like pro producers using it, will switch to anything that doesn't have a subscription and is as intuitive.
    For a musician, and also for a lot of other normal DAW-people, a subscription is a no-brainer. You simply don't do this.

    Paid for Bitwig 1, was very pleased, until they announced "version 2". I guess I will have to wait for the crack of this mediocre update. I will never support subscription models in any software.

    You keep bleating on about subscription, bitwig does not have a subscription model at all.

    Its exactly the same as most other daws but they have decided to release a new version number every 12 months. Once you buy bitwig its yours forever and you are guaranteed 12 months of updates and bug fixes.

    So how is this any different than buying say, cubase, and getting to keep cubase even when a new version is released?
