Yes, you are right. But they are not comfortable to work with. I took my computer to the bedroom to play with the plugins before sleep and the wi-fi cut. So the plugins expired. I came back to the living room, connected to the internet again and now they work. So they need internet connection all the time? Roland you suck!

he could be right, i've been on the cloud for over a week now and the other vsts need an internet connection each time

you got them with the system-8 so that's prolly different

    holy crap roland!?
while the sound is decent, wtf is that gui?
resize above 100% makes shit superblurry.
    knob-behaviour is super awkward.
    and eats my old i5.

yea, esp. after preset changes, this thing clicks and pops.

    olde i5-2400, 44.1khz, 256smpls, jup-8 at 8vc poly eats around ~ 12% sitting idle (10% for 6v, 8% for 4v, 6% for 2v poly). the juno is a bit lighter.
usage doesn't go up much while playing the thing, tho.

    reaper...
but i doubt it's an accurate measure. crackling in my reaper starts at around 25% also with other plugs.

Hm... I remember that knob behaviour in Roland Plugout SH-101 was a disaster (it caused unwanted jumps when operated with a mouse). Still same behaviour in Jupiter-8?

Same here, only i7 on laptop... it munches 60% idle on Ableton 9

    Yeahp, pretty much the same.

Also, a little bit (I'm being generous) buggy when changing presets in jupiter 8 (by clicking in the middle pannel with the presets name, or by changing banks with the buttons).

It's hard to believe that they outdue Arturia in respect of buggy GUIs.

As much as I love and will always love Roland... this is not for me

I can confirm the high cpu usage, it seems that those plugins are always loaded and there isn't idle status, this could be good to avoid spikes.
At the moment i have tested the jupiter 8 and i have to admit that is sounds good, the filter is very well emulated.
It would be very interesting to see the tb 03 and other stuff like drum machines, but i'm not convinced about paying a subscription for plugins.
For a product like this, i am more favourable for a "rent to own" model, like the one on the splice web site for the serum plugin:
    https://splice.com/plugins/15493-serum-vst-au-by-xfer-records

well, Roland puts in as least effort as possible to get the highest possible margin

i cant stand most of their new products, its such a blatant way to get much money for very simple things using their well known name and image

now they open the cloud for free, making us beta testers. Reading that two different instruments sound the same tells me how much effort they put in, minimal

i do like those system 8 thought, there are not many controllers with SO many knobs and two ADSRs
You say there are cheaply build? I like the green lights, kind of cool in a dark room, there is also a red lighted similar one

IN any case, they use such tricks to add percieved value to their products, which lets be honest are toys

As are many others, i like toys if they dont make me feel like a sucker, simply feel ripped off buying roland gear

Of course you can make good music with it, but being able to create does not depend on the gear as you have soo many tools nowadays

    i owned a Juno 60, Juno 106, JX-3P, Jupiter-4, and played with a Jupiter-8 many times at a friend's studio.
all i can say is that the TAL and Roland emulations are pretty good if we talk about the waveforms, the feeling, and the impact in general.

of course you can't expect the same punch as in the analog equivalent but with a good FX chain you make them stand out very well.
on the other side i see many people here and in other audio forums complaining endlessly about the raw sound coming out of VST synths in general, let me remind you that you wan't go far with this attitude, digital synth are too crisp to sound "fat" in their raw form, you MUST add lots of FX to compensate and to add roughness, no ifs and no buts ! that's the way digital is meant and designed to be, by the way it's 2017 there's not a single reason to stick with analogs nowadays apart for live gigs and even in that case they're nothing but problems .. i'll rather buy a random 2000$ new synth than going on stage with 100kgs of Junos and Jupiters ...

Roland's golden age is finished in the mid 90s, no way they will ever come back with amazing products.
Korg is still a lot more risk-taking, Roland is resting on its laurels, i mean they've nothing to show and they resort to rebundles and plugs of their old synths, nobody is impressed by the Aira series or their umpteenth synth/workstation or the Juno-G or Juno Stage or whatever, i would stick with Korg and Yamaha anytime, roland doesnt deserve a single dollar, even their software leaves a lot to be desired in the interface, Arturia makes better emulation than Roland itself ...

yes it sounds good, very similar to the original JP8, actually cleaner and a bit less punchy but nothing that can't be fixed with a few FXs.

said that, as they say in that video the JP8 is "legendary" and i'm ok with this but in 2017 what's the point of using sounds that were legendary in the 80s ?
the Junos and the Jupiters were fantastic at the time, but now ? what's the point ? Omnisphere has all those sounds and much more, and can do a lot more too if you program your own presets, not to mention the author of many of Omni's presets (Eric Persing) was the author of many Roland's factory sounds in the D50 and many other digital synths so if you're into the classic Roland sound you will feel at home with Omnisphere.

it's time to finally leave the analogs where they belong, in museums, and move on with our life with digital plugins and DAWs.
this analog madness must stop once and for all.

20 years from now people will say that Spire and Serum are "legendary" synths ... and the cycle will repeat.
i mean the Nord Lead and the Virus TI are already considered legendary synths, in 5-10 years they will sold as "vintage" for big bucks $$$.

a Virus or a Nord Lead have nothing to envy from a Jupiter 8, let alone from a Juno.
we should appreciate what we have now, a Virus TI in the 80s would have shocked anyone into a music store, the JP8 is not even close.
