kind of surprised that nobody has answered. one thing that i would want to know before recommending a library is what kind of music you will be using it for. my favorite lightweight sax library for kontakt is embertone's sensual sax. but it would not be appropriate for orchestral music for example.

Not real, but I really like SWAM modeled horns by Sample Modeling. There are the a handful of odds and ends kontakt saxes that are ok.

Honestly, saxophones are one of those instruments that can't be converted to a virtual instrument, either by sampling or modeling, with our current technology. Nothing out there is even remotely convincing.

i get what you are saying, really i do. but that's just not a helpful answer. everyone knows that a sampled instrument can't duplicate all the nuances of the real thing. and that's true of almost any instrument. but sometime when you are working with a limited budget and limited resources, you just have to make do with what is available. not everyone has the time or the money or the equipment available to bring in a real sax player to lay down a few notes within a mix.

He asked for a real saxophone library...Not sure if he's meant realistic or real in the sense of being sampled from the real thing...Hence my answer: There's no realistic saxophone vsti.

My advice would be to replace the sax line in the arrangement for a synthetic sound that resembles a sax without actually attempting to sound like one.

LinPlug Saxlab... does everything from Careless Whisper to a smoky Coltrane, not particularly convincingly, but can sit ok in a mix with a little reverb. Sample Modeling The Sax Brothers for Kontakt is not bad.

Fablesounds Broadway Big Band, or whatevs. If u can pick'n'mix the sounds u want? Torrents? Sister site? Helpful friends? Dunno. The reeds are pretty lightweight, for what they are, depending on how many mics u want. Even just close, u can get ok sounds, and jam a lil bit. Kinda w/o it sounding terrible. Although u need lots of fingers / toes for keyswitches. Also, anything Samplemodeling is prty good. Much (all?) of the rest is pretty shit, unfortunately...

Horrible vibrato, sorry. Embertone is far better, also Zero G Sax Supreme and an old tenor sax from Vienna Symphonic. I use these three.

Yeah, sorry but that's just... not good imho. I use SWAM. You can get convincing results from it but A) you still have to respect its limitations, B) I add a ton of crap to the sound post to harsh it up, and C) it takes HOURS of filddling and mousing in little nuances. I'm doing it right now for a solo project and the only reason is that I've set a goal that I will be the ONLY person on it bar none. Otherwise I wouldn't go through the torture; you can throw a rock in any city and find a good player that will work for a pizza, or just go on Fiverr. (And I do mean any city, I don't care how far out in the country you are. There's a decent sax player somewhere near by.)

Wonder if the o/p still is watching this?
