While using this instrument I get distortion . Manual has no FAQ or troubleshooting.

I tried changing some settings but still no joy.

My laptop has only 1GB ram, also Im running the samples for this instrument from an external HD. I suspect this may have something to do with it but ill let someone more knowledgeable shed light on the situation...

    Thanks

Did it happens with all the notes?
With your DAW and/or in standalone mode?
Is it distortion or crackling noises?

every note, chords, everything. Switched to "model 2" or whatever it is. Same issue.

Didnt try standalone, issue is in DAW, FL Studio 10.

I dunno how to distinguish, sounds like lo-fi distortion. A mix of noise/distortion/crackling.

    Thanks for helping mate.

Probably not cos it's on an external drive - the samples are all loaded up in total into RAM.

Sounds more like a combination of soundcard overdriven distortion (check sound card settings to make sure you're not ramping up too much Bass and Treble) and Latency being too low - try altering the Latency of the ASIO Drivers up to somthing like 20ms.

If it's still doing it then try 40ms although I realise that latencies at this level start to cause discernable lagg between key derpression and sound.

    Just syain...

Ive none of these issues with any other VSTi or with Kontakt.

Ill try your suggestion, although I dont think I should have to compromise latency to get it sounding right.

I only tested it one day. Ill see if it exports sounds cleanly, cos under the crackle/distortion it does sound amazing. If not, its headed for the recycling bin :snuffy:

check the volume levels of the notes in the midi file. Above 100 and The Grand begins to sound bad..

That's weird cos The Grand 2 is an oldie - very light compared to actual piano libs.
Before throwing away, I will test it in another host.

Sometimes I have found that a plugin can have multiple places to adjust levels, and that if any one of those are clipping it will cause problems, I used to run into this a lot with the patches in Kore, but your problem doesn't really sound like clipping, or latency either and it sounds like you know about that already... what does your memory usage for FL go up to when you start that VST?

ram usage about a third, just for this plugin.

ive pushed my system resources waaay beyond this with other instruments and projects before and had no problems.

ill give it another run tomorrow and see if I can identify and fix the problem.

Thanks for all the help. True gents everyone :mates:

If you got The Grand 2 it means you're pretty serious about having a good piano, I've been using Ivory for almost half a year now and will not use anything else when I want an amazing piano sound... the sample library of Ivory is simply amazing, u should give it a try, I'm a piano player, I guarantee you it's the most amazing library out there right now, if there's a better one I have yet to find it.

Mine does that also on 2gb of ram, with an external HD also, but on a computer with a "good" sound output it doesn't happen. "I think" it is how your laptop is outputting the sound. Even if you have a good external sound card your motherboard "could be" still controlling the sound for instance: an 8bit or 16bit fm chip on the board is on and controls the sound.

    Just a thought
