Did anyone notice that some good producers use the old classic windows theme?
Is there a reason for doing this? If so what is it?

A snapshot of Deadmau5's live stream using old windows theme.

I don't think it's the old windows theme, he just disabled all the theme tweaks so that they don't use its ressources.
I disable those tweaks too (specialy when I use a visualization tool), lots of people do even with nice setups, no reason to waste gpu or cpu on visual tweaks, it's even more true if you use a laptop or a not so powerfull setup. The more animations, tweaks, etc, the less ressource.

Because windows 7 is the fastest operation system (i don't know about Linux), but just if you use this skin.
I use this way since win 7 come out and can't use Aero crappy slow. i give up cubase after years just because it forces you to use AERO CRAPY SLOW.

Nostalgia. Less eye-candy. Win98 ruled, for quite a long time. I used it up until "I had to change".

It's fast, simple and efficient. Double clicking on a folder opens it instantly, no need to wait for window animation to "fly in" and waste precious resources and 1200ms of fly in effect.
And you can make it eye-candy too with vibrant colours:

Unfortunately, Win 8/8.1 and 10 don't come with Classic theme.

It's not a skin. It's the absence of a theme.

I don't like 3d, shadows, transparencies or something that is useless on themes.
I like XP style, I guess as I'm used to it, I like your appearance.
I mod windows 7 x64 with Classic Shell, its like windows XP.

It's faster to work with. It's easier on the resources as it uses less CPU and RAM. I always use a classic theme with all of my computers and installations, except when a guy uses Cubase... :/ since Cubase demands aero. Reaper and all other DAWs work great with the classic theme.

Actually, that open / close thingy is a setting on its own. I have the windows 10 theme but windows open/close instantly as I've disabled it. Check it out.

Yes, those are the animations that could be turned off easily. But win 10 looks to me very basic, no shadows, curves and other cosmetic stuff, google-style. It looks easy to run, maybe that is why they didn't include classic theme.

Thats why is switched over to win8.1. The UI is fast and slick and for me it feels more stable than win7 was. And i didn't want to go Win10, i'm not interesting in getting the whole system reinstalled with every major update without the possibility to prevent that.
The reason why 'modern' software needs the extra layer of non-classic skins is that their UI-output heavily relies on gpu assisted rendering. i'd say thats a good thing. no cpu cycles wasted on timeline scrolling or whatever.

That's why I steadfastly stick with Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Win 10 is not even on my radar these days. Those damn persistent "updates" were driving me batty.

Oh no, it takes up valuable 4 MB of your RAM, delete that thing right now and revert to Win95, that old bastard XP adds some eye-candy that takes up your precious resources, who needs blue title bars, let's remove that. While we're at it, let's go back to DOS and command line, why waste 10 MB more of your RAM for some graphics, nobody needs that junk.

It's a standard resource saving tweak. Disable all the glitz and glamour of the visual and you save CPU and RAM to dedicate to important stuff.

For resource optimization. Such things can turn your computer into a real audio beast. But you have to do lot more than jsut turn of the visualization effects. Its like mixing. 1 littel change dont make a hit. But hundered small littel weak will do the job and save you a lot of resources. But you have to go the complete road then. Which means no internet no antivirus etc ...
