Did a search here and didn't really see anything relating to either this piece of gear or the plugin versions of it.
I have one of these and was curious about what it would do for the 2 bus/mastering chain so I hooked it up. The control pots, it appears, are noisy and are going to require either cleaning or replacement. Even though it was scratchy, I could sort of hear what it was doing to the sound. Seemed like a low end/high end excitement/bump to some extent. I know what BBE states that it does for the sound (time/phase alignment of low/mid/high frequencies)
Before I invested much in it at the current time (will definitely be repaired in the future for PA/Live use) I wanted to hear some opinions from this community regarding it's application in either mixing or mastering work. Other sites say not for mastering, but occasionally finds some use with track work on poorly recorded/dull material.

I don't use for mastering (I have a hardware 362 and the plugin). But for mixing a little here and there is great. I adore my hardware unit.

I've always heard the sound as being kinda crude........sometimes thats wotcha need......sometimes not.........and not for mastering imo.

Actually just thinking about it I don't think its ever made its way permanently on to a track of mine..

One of those "I regret what I did earlier, processor" .

put it between a loudness matcher, and dial in what you want to achieve fast is my suggestion.

I think that's the version I have. The guy I got it from painted over the logos on the front so not absolutely sure. Presumably so no one could figure out the "magic" of the sound at live gigs. I guess I could poke my head in the back of the rack to see if there's a data plate.

Yeah, guys, these answers are pretty consistent with what I've read elsewhere on the interwebs. Especially the regret.

My thoughts were that if it is playing with phase cohesion between lows, mids, and highs, they are something that is going to vary for each different listening situation. So it may sound killer in the mix room, but translate horribly to other systems.

I'll probably still test it out using the plugin version because I'm hard headed that way.

It's got to pass the truck test!
