I guess the title say all! I can buy this one second hand for a good price and my plan is to use it for stereo field recordings!

All kind of experiences with this microphone are more than wellcome!

    Cheers

I've used it twice in a buddies studio for stereo mic'ing a guitar cab. We were not impressed. We ended up with a pair Shure SM57's as they always do a great job.

  9. I passed on it when I had the opportunity to pick it up. I would 9/10 times prefer to have the flexibility of the choices that are afforded with two microphones. On the upside you will not have phase issues (aim well). If it is cheap enough and you feel that you just need to have it, go for it, you can always turn it over and probably not lose on it. If you have a colored preamp, so much the better. EQ the harsh if you hear it and live a long, lively stereo life.

Oh, if you're new to field recording, you can do nice things with this one. If you're already 'spoiled' with Neumann, Schoeps or Sanken, you'll hear a big difference. Furthermore, it uses the XY stereo technique. That's great for effects and music, but less ideal for softer atmospheres & nature sounds, because with XY the stereofield is pretty narrow.
Indeed, the end quality is also determined by the preamp - if you'd record softer sounds, popular budget recorders like Zoom H2 and old H4n are too noisy for this one.
