Suppose it depends what the end goal is. To be a little self indulgent for a sec... I know with my music I don't care what the trend is, I write what I want to listen too, and if people come along for the ride that's great. Probably why I'm only getting 200plays max ;)

If the goal is to be #1 on beatport? Probably best downloading some trending songs and steal what you can out of them, that's essentially how the pop industry works.

Its not that bad, we have heard a lot worse here.
    The intro doesnt fit.
Start the song at 0:25, with the piano. The intro makes it all very amateur, without it, you have a more serious piece.

Lol @ dudes being harsh on someone for having the nerve to post a bad track. It's fine to tell him it's bad. But short, snarky, unhelpful replies to score points off a beginner just makes you look bad. He probably wants to know how to improve. How self righteous can you be?

the computer I'm on right now doesn't have any speakers. I'll be back later

I actually think it's not too bad, especially for a beginner. Generic, sure. But the actual music of it is pretty decent.

The mixing is a bit rough. Study up on how to clean that up. Keep working at it. Develop your own style. You'll get there.

Honestly I can't point to any specifically. They're everywhere though. On youtube check out Mixbus TV, Sadowick Production, i think there's one called Get That Pro Sound... there's a website called Pensado's place. Often whatever DAW you're using will have its own series of tutorials for how to get the best out of your production/mixing environment.

There is an entire section on AZ, the sister site to this one, dedicated to tutorials. It's a gold mine. If you don't know what I'm talking about send me a PM.

I've only been producing for a bit over two years myself. I spent the first year and a half completely immersed in learning materials. You can cover a lot of ground quickly if you're willing to put in the time.

edit: and if you're serious enough to spend money and you don't have monitors, get them. I recommend JBL LSR305 for budget monitors. Universally regarded as a great value (albeit $300 for a pair of them. Its hard to get anything usable for less money than that). Room treatment is important too. Look up the acoustic treatment section on Gearslutz.com. they have a big thread dedicated to getting yourself introduced to room treatment. I suggest you skip on buying treatment online. Go to a local home improvement and/or heating/insulation/ventilation warehouse and pick up Owens Corning 703 or 705. I got sixteen 2x4 panels for $95. People will tell you you need bass traps, you need ceiling clouds, you need blahblahblah. In almost every case, any treatment is better than none. Watch some youtube videos on how to set up room treatment.

Final note - use the search function of Audiosex. There have been innumerable threads dedicated to all the topics I just covered. I (and other people with far better ears and experience than me) willl have responded to these sorts of things in depth. This is a good place for pragmatic, sensible advice. There's lots of great information on Gearslutz as well, but also lots of people who have something to sell. GS has potentially the most knowledgeable user base but proceed with caution because it's very commercialized as well.

Seems like you put a lot of work into it.

It is a bit dates, and generic, but it has a fun vibe and if you did it as a study then I think it works.

I do however get this image in my mind.........

Good effort on your first track, check out online and youtube mixing tutorials but try and watch more of the ones that relate to the type of music you make aswell as the others. Only as i found that tutorials can sometimes lead you in the wrong direction with certain tips and tricks.
