Curious @Von_Steyr, what's your thoughts on the new reverb goodies? I've enjoyed your other threads on different 'verb plugs/usage.

I just finished a track with some low strings. I had LX480 on it. Later I tried R2 and Slates 480 Large Hall, and Slate worked the best.

I don't consider myself a reverb expert, still finding my way into mixing and getting that pro sound but...it's so fat and rich, I have to reduce the send (or mix) knob a lot lower than with the other reverbs, and beside the bigger, more massive and denser effect the dry signal still stays cleaner and not washed. It made those low strings huge without muffling them.

I like it a lot, and i just played with two models.

 

Just went trough some dozen different presets on a drum track.Dont have time to fully test now, but so far its right there on top with the best reverbs.Very easy on the cpu which is a huge advantage and easy to set up.I love it.

 

I am thinking of renting a Bricasti M7 just to see what is the deal with it, and to a/b compare it with the plugs.

Probably you're already aware of it, but you know about this free IR M7 library that's really good quality? Might be a cheaper way to successfully test before renting to see if it gives you any decent results?

I really wanted to hate that Slate reverb but it's actually probably the best I've heard.

Or maybe I just tested it on a particularly good recording that's more suited for reverb than what I usually work on.

Now I want reverb on everything.

 

Yes I tried it, it's great. I was thinking of trying it in a mix session with one of my tracks and really see how it behaves and really get to know the differences between it and plugs, algo and convo...if there is any practical difference that I couldn't live without. I love M7's sound, and I wonder should I start saving for it :P

I did some matching for myself with Slate's Verbsuite, I downloaded some tracks from some verb shootout threads on gearslutz. I found the two dry tracks, solo violin and solo piano, as well as the same tracks with M7. Here is the link with the files:

I tried to matched them as much as I could. File names are self-explanatory. For the sample "violin_bricasti_m7" I don't know what the preset is so I tried to match it with Sunset Chamber in the VerbSuite.

For me, it's pretty close, except I feel that the Slate's verb is somehow more detached from the signal, and real bricasti is more connected with it, like a beautiful warm hug around the instrument all the time.

What do you guys think?

I didn't want to make a shootout out of this, you could do it yourself with blind-playing the different files.

EDIT: Now, after some more listening to these samples I finally hear for the first time that Bricasti depth that everyone is talking about. Probably because plugs that I used don't really have it (and I tried and use a lot of them), and I never used hardware verbs. Or maybe I am wrong... Is there a plugin that has it?

Easy on the CPU and sounds good? I'll try this tonight on a rock tune I'm working with. Any presets that stood out to you?
I'm thinking something lush to help a dry acoustic. Was gonna use Abbey Plates again. Maybe this will be better.

 

There are instant presets for synths, drums, guitars and then you can dig deeper trough the bottom menu.
Very easy to go trough.Havent had the time to really test yet since i am in the middle of fixing a laptop
Let me know what you think of it.Abbey Road is still a killer plate reverb imo.

 

Cant tell yet, but i felt that as well.Altiverb adds more weight and dimension is not as detached as Slate, not a huge difference but i noticed it, but to be honest i need to test Slate properly.
