Folks, This is just pertaining to a dongle update (more memory) etc... Pace is still based on Eden protection and that hasn't changed.

 

For fuck's sake. Another version of this fucking thing. I bought ilok1, I've just bought ilok2 and now, no doubt, the developers will have me buying this port hog.

The thing that gets me is the way they try to sell the new version as some kind of improvement that customers can benefit from. Like you can market a new version of the same key as desirable. It's a fucking DONGLE for fuck's sake. You can make it out of platinum and the amount of fucks given would still be zero.

 

Agreed. I bought an iLok1, and it broke within 2 weeks,.... (granted somewhat "user" error as a 2nd engineer was messing around behind my system and actually cracked that ridiculously long thing...), bought an iLok2 because certain devs required it... (I have only a few products that require it, as I usually avoid iLok protected software because I always seem to forget them at one place or another, they are easily stolen, misplaced, run through the wash (not sure if that harms them) etc... I do prefer the "soft" ilok, but as a a rule I generally don't like installing PACE installers and whatnot on my system...

I haven't researched this, so not sure if it also comes with an improved protection scheme... (from other comments in this thread, the answer is no), and I don't know exactly how many licenses my iLok2 holds, but if I remember correctly, more then I am probably going to buy with the added iLok tax thrown on certain pieces of software...)..

if someone needed a new one, this smaller, more robust one, with more space at the same size, ok... but seriously... I am NOT an iLok aficionado!

 

Someone will do it, eventually. R2R has obviously been getting sharper at an impressive rate. It wasn't long ago that everyone thought that a proper u-he crack was wishful thinking. And the guy who showed up last year and sort of became the central figure in the ilok cracks may have tried his hand at it. From what I remember, he said he was looking for a challenge, and he'd cracked AirEQ in less than two weeks.

People frown on talking about this stuff publicly so I guess that's all I'll say. It'd be interesting to see what the AS community thinks of Cubase if it gets cracked. I never would have imagined it was this good for what I do, if I hadn't been forced to get it. Studio One falling apart was one of the best things that's happened to me, musically, in a long while. Given that most people who use cracked software will probably not buy the stuff no matter what, sometimes I think these companies do themselves a disservice by using these ultra-sophisticated protections. They're forfeiting a lot of free promotion. Warez users won't buy their software, but you bet your ass they'll tell people about it.

Given, that's obviously a double-edged sword and I know fuckall about running a software company. But there must be some element of truth to what I'm saying.
