this got a bit thick.. @superliquidsunshine did anyone
answer your question as to whether any convolver is better than
    another? and why?

    Sir2 is ok... Liquidsonics.. altiverb ... ?

all I came up with so far was this SOS article

    http://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/q-are-all-convolution-reverb-plug-ins-created-equal

mostly what you are saying.. more knobs and adjustments and such...
"justifying" a higher price of one vs the other.. while the quality of the IRs used become
    the deciding factor.. my takeaway..

  6. Thanks Misseur Durr, those are exactly and precisely the answers that I was looking for. When I sit on the bench on the SCOTUS would you clerk for me?

I've messed around with both, actually. RVerb comes a little closer to the kind of reverb I'm looking for. I've used TruVerb on a few tracks, usually as "real world" ambience and not as musical reverb. I actually love TruVerb, but for me, it's too dense and complex to use with music.

Once upon a time, i tested ALL reverbs plugins i could get my mouse on. Even freewares.
I used an acoustic guitar track (like you) and dry vocal line. Very hard tracks on mids/highs.
You can clearly hear what the reverb do on mix balance.

Sightly pan the two tracks (to test true-stereo algos) and use reverb FULL WET ONLY on an extreme setting (like a long Hall).
Yes, i know, it is an hard test. But at the end, if you still hear guitar and voice separated enough AND good stereo image, it is a good reverb to me.

Most reverbs didn't passed this crash test, even tweaked to the bones -> trash bin. Without any regret.

Now it is time to test this plate :D

  11. I can only imagine how wonderful the instrument inside this GUI actually sounds.

Does anybody remember that fellow, I cannot remember his name, that had pictures of different woman as a great part of the facade of his instruments and plug-ins? Now I remember!! The Marcus Johnson Collection...and here it is, different woman, sort of like those old "spicy" playing cards of yesteryear, nothing pornographic, but rather just a little racy. There are other crazy gui art covers too, but in the end in fact that is what this collection will be remembered for mostly, interesting gui art and noise making instruments and effects.

Free of course and I will guess 32bit, but still a little nostalgia for those that remember and a cheap thrill for the newly experienced. http://www.mediafire.com/?jmzdkyimfoz

I remember a reverb, a compressor and maybe a synth as well as a few others

I have the Abbey Road Plate plug-ins, & I think they're really good myself. At first I didn't think much about 'em, but after a few months of using 'em, IMHO, they're superb reverb plug-ins...Same thing with Altiverb, at first I just thought it was hype, but that plug-in has become one of my favorite reverbs...

It kills my cpu, which is ok because I use all my reverbs as sends not inserts as I was trained to do, unlike these wacky kids these days ;)

I was just about to mention this! I think a lot of people on here are using reverbs as inserts, as seems to be the norm these days. I imagine that has a lot to do with how reverb plugs are perceived anymore. However, if you're like me and use reverbs as sends on auxiliary tracks, there's at least one thing to keep in mind. I mainly use Digital Performer, though I'm starting to get into Pro Tools. In DP, if you send from a mono track to a stereo reverb auxiliary track, it's exactly the same as sending from an analog mixer track to a reverb unit = mono in/stereo out. It doesn't matter where your mono track is panned, it ends up going in mono and coming out stereo without any particular panning placement. Same deal for you guys who insert a stereo reverb on a mono track: not only does the stereo reverb not differentiate between its own stereo-ness and where you panned your track, but now, your mono panning is meaningless, because you've effectively converted your mono track to mono-to-stereo.

Thanks man, I really try hard with the recording/mixing thing, I've come a long way since I started in 2009, but I've still got a lot to learn...Actually, you never stop learning if you actually give a shit with recording/mixing...BTW, check your pm's...

Good point, I use sends for my 'verbs, & could never get the panned instruments to sit in the stereo field in the 'verb tracks...Would a solution to this be using a mono version of the reverb???

I was using reverbs as inserts, but don't anymore. I use them as a send because I can pan the send for mono tracks in Sonar which allows for good placement of the effect within the stereo field. Same with delays.

I really like the vocal preset. I usually just dial that in, adjust decay to close to the song tempo, set predelay to how forward I want the vocal to be, and enjoy. It really adds a fullness to the vocal that helps undeaden the isolated track.
