+ 1 for Tverb - just sounds amazing to my ears.
i like Valhalla verbs to and eventide are excellent - you can get a really wide spectrum of sound for them and you can be as subtle as you like or as heavy as you like. it just sounds good : )
occasionally i will use EOS ( nice bread and butter plug).

From my experience, all mechanical verbs (plates, springs, oil cans...) are very hard to emulate because they react to dynamic input.
Most algos and some convos work on modulation, not dynamic input at all.

Do a simple test to see what i mean : take your regular algo/convo verb, full wet.
Capture a drumloop at regular level. Now enter the same drumloop 6dB lower, and boost by 6dB after the reverb.
It will sound exactly the same.
Now do the same test with a Nebula reverb plate/spring and you will hear what i mean. Nebula/acqua capture the dynamic, that's why their mechanical verbs kick.

And i need to test this one to see if they included dynamic input in their algos ;)
For now, and to me, Nebula mechanical verbs still the king.

    Try them too ;)

"Maybe it doesn't help me that my pc is from the 80s?"

Although i must say it is indeed rather cpu intensive.

  6. @Von_Steyr .. sorry for confusing you, but you missed the point of my question as all the reverts that I listed are convolution based and not algorithm derived. I will pose it now differently. If I have a stereo impulse response created with quality microphones, preamps and I capture an image of an interesting space, let's say The Sistine Chapel, with all things being equal, will I be able to discern a difference between the three when I play the same signal through each engine, the Breverb2, Altiverb or Fruity Convolver? I don't actually expect you know, but am just putting it out there as I don't have the means to test them side by side by side but am curios to know the answer. And...

"People here claiming theres no difference, that its not important which reverbs you use, clearly dont understand the importance of reverbs in music production." In light of your statement, what is the importance of reverbs in music production and why do you feel it important to use a specific kind of reverb?

Finally and last but not least...
I agree with you 100% amigo!:mates:That's why people go in for GUI design, to help make the software sound better. That's common knowledge and proven scientifically by this famous double blind experiment which is sited here which proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt...

110% agree with you. Nebula, even in it's current preliminary stages, does wonders and I can't recommend enough if you want your 'dynamics' to be alive in your mixes. Not so long ago I recommended VNXT sound famous EMT 140 reverb impulses to @Von_Steyr. I must say that no algo or convo reverb, be it the most advanced and most expensive one, can come close to the 'dimensions' given by this inexpensive impulse set. When I first loaded EMT 140 IR in nebula, I got my first ever eargasm  because of the panoramic image my mix achieved processing through it. I was wondering if this is the captured impulse then what would be the original hardware. Sadly, due to Nebula cpu usage you can't mix on the go but there are still some work arounds like disabling, processing part of the mix then bypassing, checking your mix in between to adjust or just finish your work and mix your stems separately. VNXT EMT impulses are highly praised if you google.

@superliquidsunshine Sir, yes there is where the difference comes because in my understanding and from the information I gathered from those who make these softwares and pros. One word definition is the software engine, i.e., how it is coded. More to it is the processing levels; the stages a signal gets processed: point of connection of the original sound source entering from one stage into another and finally what comes out. Many boasting about the additional features like eq, early response unit system (which is you know as important as the tail), etc etc. What I like about Liquidsonic Reverberate is not only it has a dedicated Early response engine but also ADSR, user defined length of a whole IR, pre- post eq, chorus, delay, mixer and two IR engines simultaneously (can load two IRs). But definitely in the end it all comes down to the quality of the captured IR. An ordinary layman like me will not be able to appreciate the difference between what plugin was used in a mix or like you said Breverb, Altiverb or Fruity convolver. I would rather go check my arrangement that why my mix sounds shitty despite me using Altiverb. But once your arrangement is flawless, Altiverb will give it a wow factor and make it shine. People do acheive good results using shitty verbs but they 'know' what they are doing, how they are manipulating the plugin's parameters. But in this 'out of the box' era, we need spontaneous results and most of these reverb softwares serve the purpose.

I've gotta agree with Von_Steyr on this one, it's a beautiful sounding reverb. Been using this and Altiverb primarily. My system can only handle one instance of this OR one instance of Nebula with a 'verb preset loaded because both are pretty CPU hungry. I'll use Abbey Plates if I need to be able to do some tweaking, or use early reflections or predelay. I'll use Nebula otherwise. But I've been using Altiverb more and more (actually due to Von_Steyr's recommendation in another thread).
I wish there were more samplings of different rooms available in Nebula. I think it's superior to impulses/convolution.

The reason i dont use Nebula is because i can work faster with Altiverb when i want it to sound as close as possible and its also very close to what Nebula offers.
Now call me when we have a Core 8, or 9 Acustica reverb :)

Ah i see.Sorry bro.Would you be able to tell?I think if you use them a lot and exclusively that you could tell a difference between those plugin engines.Could....maybe...possibly...honestly, its not an easy question.
Though Breverb is an algo, albeit a very good one.
I really dont care about the gui, sure its nice to look at it, but i measure the strength of a plugin with my ears.

I like Altiverb too mostly for the options of use, but if its something that is really gona stand out with verb im always drawn to Nebula first... Im not a big fan of most ALGO verbs cause most times the mids get pronounced in a bad way . Boing to the sound i guess you could say

whatever result that implies.. I will say you got damn good taste Sir Super...

  16. She purred, "A nice GUI makes it sound sooo much better, don't you want it to sound so much better?". I closed my eyes for a moment to think about what she said, looked over at her sitting all curled up on the sofa on the back wall of my control room and understood what she had implied, closed my eyes a second time in making my decision and replied "Of course it does, Samantha, of course it does. Hey Sam, wanna play with my Telefunken U-47"? So you see Herr Durr, my double blind experiment!

To be honest i misjudged this plugin only by it's UI.I thought it was another marketing movement by Waves and with a simple test i did, i dropped it.Now you raised my curiosity mister.I'll have to re-test the plunging and give it one more chance.

@Von_Steyr You have a mighty discerning ear, bro. I'm starting to think you do work in TV or Film.

It's a cool plugin, no doubt. I always overlooked it in favor of H-Delay, Reflektor and Reverberate. Time to plug in the guitar and go astral projecting.
You should check out 2CAudio's stuff. Aether is algo but it's phenomenal.

@superliquidsunshine I think it's gets easier (for me) to tell the difference between engines if I'm at 192kHz but you guys have better ears than me.
EDIT - Abbey Road Reverb Plates only supports up to 96kHz.

  20. The Abby Road Plates 1st of all are unique, 2nd, evoke countless amazing songs that were engineered there and are part of the cosmic consciousness, 3rd, are modeled by some of the greatest current folks doing this kind of work and 4th, start at one and work through it again...

These beautiful-sounding plates, with a variable reverb time of up to six seconds, were then tweaked to perfection by Abbey Road's technical engineers. To keep noise to a minimum, EMI’s Central Research Laboratories designed unique hybrid solid-state drive amps for Plates A, B and C. Plate D was fully valve-powered on both drive and output stages, allowing a versatile array of sonic characteristics, from warm and dark to lush and smooth.
