Hi !

I'm not new here but as my former display name was used in my everyday life I preferred to make a new account.

Well, today my Logic (Legit) was open, and when I came back in front of my computer, I saw a web page with a FabFilter message saying "Your Saturn plug-in might be infected or cracked etc etc... Using cracked plug-ins is bad blah blah blah" of course it's bad, but when I use them in a project, I always buy them ! If I could afford all of them of course I would buy them !

So I wonder if it's important or not, what to do ? What not to do ? It was the last version, should I have to install it again ?

What do you think ? Do you guys already experienced this ?

Ideally you shouldn't leave your DAW connected to the Net as it leaves it vulnerable, whether you use cracked plugins or not.

If you have no other option then you should really use Little Snitch or any good firewall that will block unwanted applications from phoning home. As for the plugin, uninstall it, make sure you've cleaned out any unwanted detritus it leaves behind, then reinstall it. If this fails, then you missed something in stage two. Your IP has probably been logged somewhere but I wouldn't worry about it. Think of it as a gentle reminder for the next time you're flush with cash.

Ok, I didn't know it could be a problem to leave the DAW running ! I tried Little Snitch but I didn't like it... I will do a search but is there a good invisible (On my desktop) firewall ? Ideally I don't want something on my Dock and on in my task bar if I don't want to !

I'm gonna start by deleting everything related to this plug-in (Which I barely use anyway).

You can leave your DAW running as long as you want ... but not when you're connected to the web.

The best (and only) way to avoid any "call home" is to ALWAYS use cracked apps on a computer which is NEVER connected to the net.
Why ? Because even if you close your DAW before a connection, some cracked plug-ins you've used in your DAW's last session may be linked to hidden processes which continue to run in the backgroud, waiting for a web connection to call home... and BANG, you're dead !
So the rule is : 1 (expensive) computer for your cracked/legit apps + 1 (cheap) computer for the net.

 

I know that, but when you're about to buy a new computer you're like "Yeah this time I won't use this fucking internet connection on this one, I'll keep the old one for that use" etc...

And few weeks/months later you're on Facebook and Logic at the same time (You know, to find something to do while you're bouncing for example lol)
