I created this last year, however over the year I have learnt a stupid amount when it comes to mixing. I still think it could improve on this though but I'm happy... for now.

So I wanted to know what you guys think of the song, mix/mastering. Also any constructive criticism?
...And yes I put a reverb on the master and set it to a room type reverb with very shore decay to add to the feeling and concept of the song. I wanted it to feel like coffee shop!

Regarding the song: I love all the elements it has, I just miss some "guidance" (don't know a better word, it's a bit as if sequences are put one after the other)

Mix/Master: I very much like the crystal clear sound. To my personal taste it is a bit too heavy on the kick.

    Wonderful listening experience. Thank You!

    Thank you!

Yeah I actually thought maybe the kicks are too heavy in the end. I mix on headphones (AKG K240 MKII) and the low end deceives me  haha.

And the 'guidance' bit I actually know what you mean, at least I think I do. I'm sure I made it at the time at pretty much looped verse and chorus etc.. so it's more of a beat rather than a song (which I've come to learn over the past year).

    Thanks for the feedback!

Really cool song, like it a lot. Not sure what feedback you're after, can't really think of anything bad to say about it.

well as a mix and veingineer the prouction is great and nice sound selection... depth wise i think it can improve especialy the reverb selection and lengths and send amounts. I also think the track could be thicker ..a bit more warmth as they say. Why dont you send me over the stereo mix let me see what i can do mastering wise I think i can get that last 15% it needs(mastering wise :)

Like someone said above, got nothing to critic. It sounds good already.
One thing I think I personally never liked is songs that sounds 'too close' so to speak, like this one too. Maybe I'm just too 80's and addicted to reverb.
    Great work dude.

Sounds good, nothing in there that can not be balanced out in post with some basic small shelves.

If you like the track as is, leave it alone, even that kick can be balanced and honestly, it sounds nice with a just small -LSF & -HSF.

    nice tune,
    happy vibes

    feels like summer,
could fit a (movie) soundtrack easily

just curious of what you used : your own samples ? samples "from a box" ? both?

regarding the mixing, i noticed your comment afterwards : i thought the reverb was part of the sampling, which made it sound like "natural ambiance", so good job.

i think you'd lose of this natural vibe if you'd go deeper into mixing, the thing is perfect like it is.

First let me commend you on placing your work for critique...It is a brave thing to do here...Or crazy you pick!

Let me start by saying what I enjoyed most about the Beat is that Original creative element that so many lack now a days.
Most folks strive to sound the same or like somebody else. Your choice to use well placed "ear candy" sets the mood
and gives the imagination something to look out for. I like the fact that it sounds so open, like it's breathing.
    Again, nice work. :like:

There are some small things you could clean up, like I think the Kick snare play clashes a little at times. The snare is also a little
thin to me as well. The kick is out there but the level of the Bass Synth makes it a lil too big at times. Would love to hear a deep fx on the
Sax maybe a tight delay with a shadow reverb set to taste. I say that since you have no vocals and that being the case the Sax is carrying
the melody. I wonder what Genre of music would you say this is? Without vocals and with the Sax standing out, it would borderline smooth
Jazz/R&B. That being stated a tighter mix would make it shine and cut though. All these things are just for touch up. Nothing heavy.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to your work and hope to hear you out there in commercial land sometime soon. 7 3/4 of 10!
Don't mind me...I scale everything. lol.

I'll do that! If I can find my mix stem folder I randomly created within about 100 folders haha. Thanks a lot!

Thank you! I actually was proud and I'm never proud and usually upset with my mixes even if the song is good, but the mix in this was something that needed to done right to give the effect I wanted, that summer, free feeling. I got my concept out which is usually very hard for me to execute but still it isn't 100% how I want it to sound haha.

As for the samples, it's mixed. I found a guitar loop in a random pack and used that for the intro, then time stretched that in half to create the, almost, ukulele sounding loop for the rest of the song. Kicks and snares etc.. were layered from hip-hop kits, fairly typical, but with reverb on a room type setting on a bus it gave it another dimension. Sax was a loop too. Some sounds I created myself a clap layered on top of the sample pack clap/snare. I remember a few other sounds I recorded myself (I borrowed a mic and rinsed the hell out of it for the 3 days I had it haha). I actually think the break with the Japanese (I think) women is actually my friend sending me a video of him in Japan and then I added delay/tannoy type eq to give it that airport type feeling.

The actual Idea I had was sitting in a coffee shop, alone, relaxed within my own thoughts in a sunny place. The song was about farewells. The airport sounding break was almost like "bye, see you soon". When you won't see that person for a long, long time. It's the first time in so, so long (probably 4 years) that I was inspired and able to create a song that emits my exact vision.

Yeah I have a biased ear or liking towards bass being loud. I've come to realise when it's being mastered and the levels are being crushed the bass will overpower anything, regardless of sidchaining. The snare/clap is actually the part I wasn't happy with for a long time, so good you heard that out as well haha. I wanted it to have a clean sparkling clap fairly low with a warm tight snare. but just couldn't get the balance with sound selection and mixing. For the sax I actually didn't even once think to add creative fx... don't know why, if I get to mixing this again to tidy it up I'll do that, I think that'll literally give the song what I wanted in the first place, a open feeling!

I don't know what genre it is really. I guess the drums and percussion sound selection is fairly trap/hip-hop. but more tame and chill. Possibly Chill trap if you want to go for new genres. I feel I want to say it's some type of jazz and hip-hop. But It's really a mixture of hip-hop/trap/jazz/future bass. But honestly, I don't know what genre it's "bound" to!

Thanks for the feedback, seriously it's really helpful!
