You have a long way to go with mixing so just learn that first. Those chords and melodies sound like they've been used in 100 other tracks. The weak kick and harsh highs with the synth and piano should have set off your ears...

It needs to say " Schumacher" before the chorus.

Start by looking in the mixing and mastering forum. Loads of good info in just the first sticky alone!

Hey there, this is a great place to get honest feedback when you really want it. But it can be brutal if you're not prepared.

The arrangement is good, there are good buildups and release so you can take some positives away with you. Some of those chords in the main drop just stay static the whole time which makes the drop sound a bit disjointed and the mix is unbalanced like others have said.

However write another one, and post it. Rinse and repeat, the secret is to keep finishing tracks. Also grab a track you like and put it in your daw and try make your songs sonically sound similar (Don't copy the song, just try make the kick sound the same, and the levels).

    Write another one today :)

I'm gonna piggy back on what @kjfarrell said. You're a really posi critic btw, I really appreciate that =)

It's definitely not a bad tune! I do hate the genericness of what EDM has become but that's besides the point if you like that then tell the clowns to fuck off. I was all about Happy Hardcore when I was younger and had to defend my love of it from the older jaded ravers all the time but I enjoyed it and that's what REALLY matters and even if I don't keep up anymore there's a gianormous back catalog of old Dutch Happy Hardcore and UK hardcore that gets me going every time I feel down. Even when it's been years since i've listened to something that feeling comes back =)

If you're a young or new producer try to find why you are doing it in the first place. If it's for the fame? Then just follow the Beatport charts and try to recreate whatever you hear in the top 10.

If it's something about it that drives you more than that find it! There are ways to take something very solidified and create abstractions. Use glitch plugins or try different edits by hand. Do something you didn't try before. Experiment with how you make music.

I have to go on long sabbaticals sometimes from listening to music, or going out to parties because I need to not be influenced by whatever trends are going on so my inner me is what I can hear loudest and isn't colored by any trends.

Either way, as far as your track goes:
There were a few piano notes that felt like they were missing during one of the breakdowns. The song is structured well but its way too much Part A to Part B to Part A again to part B again. Write bridges! They are probably the most difficult part of the song to write especially if you are listening to a lot of commercial EDM where they really don't do that anymore. I like the breakbeat you threw into the second breakdown, I love using breaks to add energy to sometimes stale and overdrawn breakdowns. The mixing is definitely the thing you can work on more also. Don't feel bad though, I didn't really bother to learn mixing but it's an important skill to have refined ears. Also, it took me nearly a decade to get to as good as you are in production then you are now and I have less then a dozen tracks I might say are finished. But, if music is the very thing that drives your soul, just keep at it! It takes time and dedication just like anything else you want to get good at!

Also, you guys. Cut this kid a break! Do you remember the first few tracks you ever made? Was it a quarter of the way as good as this? If it was, well you must have been doing something right because mine sure as hell didn't.

If it wasn't? Well, then don't be a hipster prick about peoples first few journeys into production. Our musical tastes no matter how obscure they are now, usually stem from something else less obscure.

I personally don't like asking for constructive criticism from people who aren't able to set aside their personal opinions on some other matter that's possibly completely unrelated.

Either way I hope to hear more out of you orelcy, you're doing great! Just keep at it!

No where was it stated this is the first track he has ever made. In fact if you click on his soundcloud there's another older track right there. For all we know he could have ten years of production experience, but only recently started posting it online.

@OP Since no one answered you, AZ is AudioZ search for it. It has tons of tutorials and other goodies for us audiophiles.

@Funk U , I definitely understand where you're coming from. It's possible he has been producing for much longer. It's just that, I kind of see time and time again that someone posts something commercial up for review and suddenly it's no longer about the song itself, it's about so many other things. That's gotta stop.

We gotta build each other up is all. There's a reason I'm on this forum as opposed to the other ones, I like it here.

I mostly agree to the others that you need to practice more and a lot, but after listening to your first production I can tell that you are still on a better track than many others. Keep practicing, even if sometimes you may feel you are getting worse as it is almost always up and down in the short run, but in the long run improvement is inevitable. Be passionate about producing music and the rest will follow...

Being a producer is not just generating sounds. Is being able to discern if your track is good enough, when you must consider the track finished (compromise between your current skills and the set target) and have a good taste in music.

I don't care if he's a kid or if my first track was worse than his. At least I had the decency not to put it out there and look for a feedback because I had a good enough taste to know that it was simply sub standard. And the same for the next dozens.

Furthermore, if the OP is really young, it's even more strange that he can't follow the latest trends in commercial dance music (which is the easiest thing to do for a young person). One of the biggest issues of producers (and DJ's) is to attach too much to a fading genre and become obsolete.

So yes, I think we are doing him a favour by telling him that a product that he has in store is expired. I, for sure, would appreciate to know that.

@jayxflash is it okay for me to pm you? You seem like a reasonable person and I would much rather prefer direct dialogue rather then turn this into a public pissing contest.
